If you're looking at it from an IT perspective, Pepsi has already cut most of their employees by telling them that the next day they come in, they work for Cognizant, not for Pepsi. Pepsi has absolved itself of responsibility; now when people are terminated, they can say it was Cognizant, not Pepsi, that let them go. In that way, management's move to an outsourced model is already done. Pepsi will tell Cognizant that they no longer need this employee here, that employee there, so that there will never be news, in IT at least, that there are any sizable layoffs. They've done it all very neatly.Over time, most of them will be gone from Pepsi. Cognizant may provide them with jobs somewhere else, but with Pepsi's ability to keep people in the same job for years where their skills gradually erode and become unmarketable is well known. Therefore, if you're in IT, you should be getting out of there as quickly as you can before Cognizant tells you that you aren't needed anymore - without the severance package that Pepsi would have paid, if you had been laid off years ago.

The Purchase building got completely renovated because of a rat infestation. Pepsi put out the press release that they're building a world class headquarters. Bullshit. They had mice and rats in the void between the cement exterior and the interior walls. When they opened up some walls to try to deal with it they discovered the walls are made out of asbestos so they had to vacate the building and do a gut job. Amazing that "Pepsico Headquarters Shut Down Due To Rat Infestation" never made the news. They were extremely careful about that but those working there knew the story.
I remember that Purchase was extensively remodeled, but that it didn't result in an increase in office space. I remember a lot of remodeling going on in Somers on the eighth and ninth floors, but that was only about four years ago and they moved out anyway -
There are separate building maintenance folks that are hired by owner of the buildings of leased space. These folks are responsible for an elevator breakdown, HVAC etc.
Then there are those hired by Pepsi to maintain the leased office space. Facilities in Pepsi were responsible for conference room setups, large meeting setups and breakdowns, taking in deliveries etc. These are the folks that have been laid off.
But those people don't work for Pepsi - and the buildings are still there, whether occupied by Pepsi or no.
Facilities got cut because of building consolidations.
Facilities? Why let people go from facilities? Something's not making sense there . . .
Yes, very true, very true. It makes you think what all those executives will be doing, since the outsourced teams are really autonomous and in no need of Pepsi managers.
Not just IT. IT only has execs left..very little low level folks. Cuts today were from NON IT groups.
