Anonymous197935, if GOM is closing up shop, it's not because of the people, as you affirm. That's ridiculous. If GOM assets are being diminished, it's because of the economics right now. Simple fact.

Bottom line, GOM is finished. It is going and it is going for a reason. The people. Too much work place harassment, bullying, intimidation, abusive team leads and zero accountability. No other location has such a bigoted and petty work environment. Finished and closing for a reason. Simple fact.

Golden Order of the Crawfish...

I started my career in Lafayette, and you will never work with a better group of people. Best wishes to all affected.

Ditto that, Anonymous196696. I worked offshore in Louisiana for many years in my early career at Chevron. I too enjoyed working with the Cajun people and local folks. I enjoyed their humor, work ethic and ingenuity. A fine bunch of folks and my life has been rewarded for the experience. One other thing - Louisiana cuisine is my favorite by far.

Sad to know if it is true the GOM shelf will be sold. I worked there off and on for 15 years and much enjoyed the people, their work ethic and ingenuity.

Back in the day, when my dad was growing up down there, that was considered a very derrogatory term.

You may call me what you like, I have been an employee of Chevron's GOM business unit for 35+ years, I am dam proud of Chevron, GOM BU, and being a Cajun and or coon ass.... mind you I do work at Northpark, and my dress attire is not a fishing shirt or a blue jean.... I take great pride in myself ... really what you call me or think of me doesn't really matter to me...

Which is it really?... An insult or a badge of honor? Sure sounds like an insult. I'd prefer to be called a Cajun.

Coonass, or Coon-ass is used in reference to a person of Cajun ethnicity. Many consider the term an insult, but others consider it a compliment or badge of honor.

Oh my god, such typical chevron one dimensional idiots. Duhhhhhh, bigotry.....??? that can only happen against black people, right??? duhhhhhh...... No freakin wonder this company has gone from 3rd best in Fortune to a toilet bowl that hasn't been flushed in 18 months. No wonder we are tanking if these boards represent the pre-programmed retardation that is the typical Chevron employee.

The gays and lesbians are well represented in the GOM too. They are fugly and fat compared to those in Calif.

Bigoted against whom is a great question. The GOM is diversified with an African-American top executive. They call themselves coonasses.

Come on, folks. I've been working in Houston for over 15 years. I've also worked in the Louisiana GOM production fields prior to that. The blue collar (and many white collar) folks we have in GOMBU are among the best workers and friends I've had during my career. I have nothing but praise. Don't let one or two bad experiences change your opinion of all of them. We are all Chevron colleagues and have our work to do. Now because of the downturn in the industry, we are all of a sudden at each other's throats? Come on!
