Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Would anyone mind saying what the severance package was?

Today morning ? You are Indian....of course you are positive. Some other tribe at some other company will take you in and you will find your place/caste among them. That is, assuming the very vast and intricate Desi network allows you back in.

I really thought I would be tapped this time. I was not. And honestly, I can't decide whether to be happy or sad to still be there. I think we can all agree that it's only going to get worse as time goes on.

I totally agree it's best opportunity I got. I was mad yesterday when was tagged. Today I wake up late, went to gym, feeling very good and relaxed. Unlike some of you I am single bread earner in the family with 3 dependents. However am optimistic that I can cash my higher academic degree and skill sets in todays market.

I was looking to jump the ship since last 2 years but commitments were never so serious since management never gave me time to breathe. Almost 45 - 78 hrs/week of workload since I joined this team. This is the paid time off I got to look for the job I like. I am happy that I am out from VZW IT corporate slavery where by default you are supposed to work on weekend and almost every weekend.

I was out 5 months and it was the first time I haven't worked since I was 16. It was awesome. Had a neighbor that got laid off the same week as me and we played tennis and golf all week long. My wife works and we just lived off her salary and put my severance in savings. Take this time and enjoy it. You are being paid to relax. Look for a job everyday, but cap it at a few hours. Once you find a new job, you will look back and wish you would have enjoyed this time more.

I knew that my time was coming, so we saved up for it for over 6 months. I got re-org'd 3 times in a year and each time got less and less responsibilities. In my last year I even got Leading rating, but I knew that wouldnt save me. The writing was on the wall for a long time. I had lost over 100 co-workers in my 15 years here and I looked around and realized I barely knew any of my co-workers and none of my leadership.

What a great post, thank you for that. I am 50+ and was given my papers ... it was quite a surprise but I can only see this as a tremendous opportunity to do something even better. With the generous severance, and our skills and knowledge, we have nothing to worry about and do have the time to enjoy today, our health, our families and friends.

You must be under 50. I like the positive and it is best to remain that way. As for those that are above 40, which makes them a non-millinial, every year becomes more unmarketable and at 50 and over contracting holds the easies. There are still places that need the experience. Sucks being too old for VZW and too young for Walmart greeter. I agree the seperation was pretty good and affording some time to think. I am one of the fortunate few that have a prior pension from the first 22 years. I keep being remindedby my wife, had they come to me and offered this package and not forced it. I would have been scared of what may come, however, taken it and not have been so betrayed and feel screwed over.

I am not a saint- uncertain future is always in my mind. Yes, I am planning to go to the beach. But I am sure, every minute my mind will be preoccupied with the same question- WHAT IS NEXT?

Very good attitude. Best wishes. My time will come too at some point. Until then I continue to leverage the free training/education they provide. MBA, Greenbelt..all paid for. Everyone needs to have an exit plan
