Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I like this post from someone on hiring until last minute and then laying off-

How can people not see what's going on here? The c/levels buy up stock, continue hiring right up to the last minute because they have to keep the charade alive, then they start axing their very best experienced long-time employees to avoid paying retirement packages, replace w kids barely out of college, post jobs like crazy for contractors for 1/2 the pay. Why? Lean on the books drives up stock price. The c/levels cash out and get out next year before the shell company crashes and the law suits for age discrimination hit. Don't you get it? They are pillaging the company stripping talent and experience to line their pockets then jumping out the fire escape hatch before it goes down in flames. For those not let go yet, play there game. Ride it out and hope for a package, all the while you're job searching knowing the shipwreck is coming... AT&T will probably be snatching up the VZ remnants for pennies on the dollar - wait and see...

This same scenario played out awhile back when they fired 3000 employees. This is how they boost the earnings for the next quarter. When will the wireless employees finally get it that with a union this scenario would be very different in the future.

Only difference is a unionized force has a contract with procedures in regard to layoffs. Usually by seniority. Non union like you folks get picked by the grim reaper regardless of your time, experience , kissing ass ability, etc. towards Wireless upper mgmnt. Sure layoffs happen in a union workforce. At least its by seniority and you have avenues to fight the company.
