Power Hungry Managers

Why are some of you managers so power hungry and always in power-mind-game mode all the time?? They are treating you with contempt, exerting their power and control over you extending into abuse or was that your experience in childhood? Not all VZ managers are this way but for those of you who are, just remember, one day you could be on the other side asking the same question.

I always like when I get a call from a former manager. They always make a point in saying how the were in charge of some department. They always make it sound like they ran the company but wait you were fired!!!!!! Managers have no heart, no soul they are a number in a game there only purpose is to tell you what there master told them no matter how nice they seem. If they "did the job" that means they were to lazy to actually work and decide that telling others what to do is some how better.

If you ask for a promotion then you are pushed out because you questioned their bias/favoritism.

And there are some crooks that are envious of you and resort to character assassination.

I know of a tech who was blacklisted for asking for his promotion. Nobody wanted to hire him Hope that Mgr is cut.

It is too late to complain about favoritism. Any thing that is happening was a culture that was allowed to manifest by you all. Mgrs hiring friends and associates. Blacklisting of employees. Now, mgrs and employees are at the same level. Lesson learned. It can happen to you.

This RIF has nothing to do with who's good or not. It's a numbers game, you make a lot, you are gone, you have tenure - you cost a lot, you are gone. Need 10 folks here, need 10 folks there, summon them and cut them. That's kind of how it works. Nothing will be changed as it relates to how people are managed and how people are managing. VZ is my 4th employer (25 years of experience), and I can tell you that VZ is a middle of the road company when it comes to management, not too bad, not very good as well.

You must be a manager...

I don't have any issues but some managers are horrible leaders and do not promote or develop their direct reports....

Then there are decent ones ...

I just hope with RIFs that they let the lazy and non productive ones go also...
