Odds are you are affected if you are called into a meeting over the next two days or even next week. "Affected" can also mean different things. It can be that you are losing your job or possibly having your role reassigned, redefined or altogether changed if they want to retain you. Primary targets are those in area and regional positions in senior management, marketing, finance, sales ops, network, IT, training, and even those in sales orgs and back-office admins for all of these. In sales, anyone not frontline is vulnerable, that is, anyone higher than store manager has the potential to be affected. I've been prepping for this situation. Even though I am nervous, it could be worse. I decided to get proactive a couple of months ago and this is how. Be prepared even if you are not in one of the above listed departments or positions. Spend time getting contact info from your work network so it is not on company devices and is accessible to you later. Re-visit your resume and update it with your current position and details before they are forgotten. Start a job search so you know what the market is needing and how you match up to it. Start a job search within the company if you really desire sticking with the company (tenure benefits are painful to lose, annual vacation, STI, etc) Consider contacting a search firm or headhunter (fee-paid only, please!) for more market needs and an assessment of your profile. Do all of this BEFORE you get any news, it will make it easier to know YOU are already taking control and that you are getting a jump on things. And if you don't get called into one of those meetings? Keep the process going, it will help calm your nerves and take your mind off the pain others are feeling and you possibly will encounter positions for affected colleagues.
