Confirming Anonymous187552, the people I know who were cut today are on the payroll until 12/31, with severance following.

"Immediately" just means you don't have to come to work tomorrow. Your job for the next 60 days is to look for a job. Last day on the payroll (this time) is evidently 12/31. Severance is 2 weeks per year up to 35 weeks. It's been like this for more than 15 years. And that is WAY better than most other companies out there now. Thank God.

The plan is to eliminate roughly 35k Jobs.

The first wave will be 8k-10k with consolidation of the RHQ's to Mega Regions

Then they will close about 50% of retail locations and eliminate those jobs.

Call centers that are absolutely necessary will be consolidated and the rest moved to the Manilla or Bangalore or Hyperbad.

Network will be outsourced to Crown Castle & American tower and the two vendors pitted against each other contractually to reduce cost.

Continued systems automation from VLSS will continue to drive additional jobs from the business.

Wireless B2B: SMB will be eliminated and moved to the stores & call centers eventually. Enterprise will be consolidated under TJ Fox under VES and most Wireless employees will be gone because they do not understand cloud, security, managed services and the overall portfolio.

The copper assets will be divested of with Century Link and Frontier bidding for the remaining parcels... So all of the Union employees go with that deal or as many as Verizon can possibly unload.

My understanding of the WARN plan is over 50 employees in one location receive an additional 60 days. When my company let 75 go, they were given an additional 60 days. When they made cuts over several states, and no single city had more than 50, they did not receive the additional time.

Federal law requires 60 day notice for layoffs involving more than 100 people. So I dont understand how people are getting laid off immediately. I guess keeping them on the payroll until 12/31/2015 satisfies the requirement. Employees over 40 should def have their severance reviewed by an attorney before signing. You have a minimum 45 day review period. I would not be surprised if there is some age discrimination going on.

I have solid, first hand knowledge but cant post my location or dept for fear of retribution. From what ive seen on the payroll until 12/31/2015 and severance is 2 weeks pay for every year w/ the company.
