Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

I would not take the current severance package, better ones are on the way and only the suckers took the first round of offers.

We are surprised at how many Dodo's jumped on the recent package. Originally it was going to be 26 weeks but so many idiots took the first scraps tossed at them. They were like Mexicans trying to clean your windshield at the border. You people are pathetic!

It's highly unlikely there was EVER a "26 week severance package" in the works. In June, the offer was 1 week per 2 years of service. If the company continues to lose money, there may be no severance packages when future layoffs occur.

No way a future package is better. I'm taking my 14 week severance and am out the door 11/19. Just accepted another job today starting 11/23. It's gonna be a nice Christmas. Thank you UoP!!!

History (with other companies) would show that earlier severance packages tend to be more valuable than those offered down the line when the company increases the RIF numbers but starts to run short on cash. Waiting for a better package is risky. I also doubt the validity of the 26 week package (possibly for executive management). A more likely number is one week per year of service with a cap around 10-12 weeks.

Yeah, what pathetic people. Why didn't they just gaze into their crystal balls and foresee the 26 week package? I mean any old Hogwarts wizard has the capability to do that! What suckers! What dodo's! So many idiots just taking the first scraps that have been thrown to them! LOL. What scraps? No one has been given anything yet! Who is the true idiot here? How exactly are these folks idiots, suckers, and dodo's for not being privy to information about an alleged 26 week severance package? You speak of desperation in this instance as if it is something to be disgusted of. Really? Why? Maybe these folks have tact. Maybe these folks would rather opt in to a voluntary separation with the company as opposed to being forced into an involuntary separation with the company. What exactly about the situation is pathetic? Is it the fact that these folks aren't fortune tellers therefore cannot predict a better offer in the future? How are these folks idiots, dodo's and suckers for opting into the voluntary separation program which is a better offer than the involuntary separation program. There is quite a gap in severance between the voluntary and involuntary programs. Whomever you are, you are insulting the situation. There are people absolutely terrified at this point and you find it appropriate to compare hardworking individuals with this company to other hard working individuals washing windows at the USA/Mexico border? There is no difference! We are all human you spiteful, ignorant, arrogant fool! It's not pathetic, it's professional. I pray you don't really work for this company because you are an awful person!

I doubt they will offer this option again. They are losing money by the day and just invested $109 million to a foreign institution acquisition. Apollo is putting their money into banking from foreign markets. UOP will downsize a lot more and will remain but nowhere near its current size.

That's a shame. Sorry to hear that. We are facing the same fate now.

You are stirring up all kinds of lies. A package consisting of 26 weeks will never happen and has not happened in previous layoffs.

In fact, the current voluntary package at least gives forewarning which did not occur to those impacted by previous layoffs. Additional weeks of vacation and for some insurance benefits through the remainder of 2015 IS more than UOP offered during past layoffs.

Those who are in a position to leave will and should. The alternative is waiting to see what the company will offer and based on current stock prices ...may be dismal in comparison to current offerings.

I urge those who are posting false statements to stop as it is not helpful nor warranted.

Really? That's funny because those that volunteered have until Nov 6 to retract their form and no one is to be notified for a few weeks still. Team HR? I doubt it.
