Here's where it gets questionable...after looking back at a year plus of back to back "feel good" communications from Tommy on how great we are and how we (he) can justify the "fat cat" mentality in our ridiculously top heavy corporate offices, ever since we Apexed, communication has been almost non-existent. Given the fact that our customer facing Outfitter's are the lifeblood of the operation and one of the very few assets we can afford to alienate, you would think that Tommy and his minions would do a better job of recognizing the contributions of the aforementioned Outfitters and at least look for ways to be a little more visible and caring. By not saying anything lately, he is speaking volumes. If this is the way that a leader expects to command respect, loyalty and productivity from his team, I for one welcome the day that we once again have the opportunity to work for and excel under a Leadership Team that understands where "Legendary Customer Service" comes from and gives us the tools we need to make it happen, if only a note once every so often, while they count their profits.

What is the company culture at this point? Are we still the foremost?

Well if bass pro takes over, cabelas can be better again. We can go back to being a private company that can do more for customers instead of meeting fiscal goals to keep the shareholders happy. Better customer service again, more staffing, more competitive on pricing. This takeover, if it's happening, will probably be a good thing for the stores. I doubt we would loose the cabelas name.

The Cabela's customer experience-

-Over 10 minutes to find someone to help

-Waited 10 minutes while they found someone who could answer my question

-item out of stock but found something that should work

-waited in checkout line

-get to register, systems hangs in the middle of checkout and they can not get it to restart

  • had enough, walked out

-called friend who was shopping at Bass Pro and had him get the items for me

Folks you need to wake up. Customer service and product quality were key factors in shopping at Cabela's, even though they are more expensive. Quality started going downhill a while back (around the time they changed the return policies).

I was in the store on Saturday and while the lot was full the cash lanes were EMPTY. I guess not taking care of the customer has come home to roost. People looking, not buying, going home to order on line.

Tonight's news reports that gun sales are strong. The good ole boys in Sidney must be dancing dancing again. I remember the unfortunate day when the Sandy Hook massacre happen. Tommy threatened management to not talk to anyone about it. Think about the millions that were made. At a corporate meeting on Denver the good ole boys gave the NRA a check for a million dollars.

Maybe this group can keep going for a while longer. Can't figure out the apparel when you got rid of some of the apparel leaders ! Sell guns and ammo instead !

Does it feel like the company is giving up? They bow to Wall Street pressure to either keep growing profit or be subject to re-structuring. Guess they ran out of time to improve themselves, and the activist investors are stepping in to get their hands on whatever they can flip from the company. I do not have any good feeling about staying with them if we get taken over.

Jim and Mary might not have a say in the matter. Something is going to happen .

If they plan to sell, can they wait until 2017? Once Hillary gets in as President, gun sales will go through the roof. The stock probably could go to $70.

Jim Cabela is still our Chairman of the board, still has his name on the building, and I trust he will make the right decision for all of us. Say whatever you want about investors, shareholders, etc.. Jim is not a greedy man (he is on the extreme side of humble and modest) and I think the best interest of the company and his legacy are what will determine whatever happens. Other than that it is business as usual. Whatever decision is made, it should be Jim's, not an investment firms.
