Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

(2012 Job Cuts News): Broad new layoffs at T-Mobile USA, 900 jobs cut

T-Mobile USA Chief Executive Philipp Humm warned employees a few months ago that more layoffs would happen by the end of May. It's happening right on schedule.

Today, the company is informing employees of "a series of organizational changes," a spokeswoman said.

A net loss of about 900 jobs will result. But even more jobs are likely affected by the changes, which include layoffs and shifts to outsource more work.

(Update: The day after the layoff announcement, the company said hiring planned through the rest of the year will offset some of the cuts.)

These layoffs are a major blow to the largest remaining wireless company in the Seattle area after a series of mergers over the last two decades.

Got a good chuckle about this one. Ever notice that every job lost is an "excellent" one and every job created is a McJob? Seriously, the article says that the specific job cuts aren't even identified. You guys would be funny if you weren't so confused.

All I know is that, from my end user point of view is that my T-Mobile service has been great for the places that I go to, no complaints for me. iPhone would be cool, but I don't have to have it and I'm happy with my Android phone anyways.

Sure, that's a fair apples to apples comparison right there. GWB was losing 750,000 a month vs. 900 T-mobile jobs (out of 39,000 total). I especially like how you insinuate that it's neither Presidents fault and then go back into it actually being Obama's fault. So filled with irrational hatred you can't even keep your dogma straight.

Well then, it's a good thing that ATT and Verizon don't have to work in "this economy". Both have had record profits over the last 4 years.

Whooo, boy, having your own economy must be a fun place to be.

Not having an iPhone may cause some customers to switch, but they do have the Android, BlackBerry, and Windows OS like everyone else.

The difficulty is that GSM phones have poor coverage in rural areas, so if you leave major cities, you're out of luck

I was a T-Mobile customer from back when I was a beta customer for Omnipoint. I left T-Mobile last November, which was about 5 years since that last time they had a decent product to offer. Horrific management changes has resulted in a crap company.

And exactly how is T-mobile laying off employees related to President Obama???? Is he now the CEO of T-mobile. Are you people smoking Crak!!!! The President has nothing to do with a private business laying off or hiring people. Private businesses, just like mine, can hire and layoff at will. I do not call President Obama on my cell phone and ask him, personally, how many people should I layoff, as if he is responsible for all the Mom and Pop businesses in America laying people off. We have been in this micro-depression for the last 5-6 years. Is this some kind of new information for you people.

"Really? So what you are saying is that this layoff has nothing to do with the fact that TM remains the lone major carrier without an Iphone?"

I actually remain a loyal TM customer because they DON'T have the iphone. ATT got it, and jacked up their data plans. VZW = same thing. And now we're seeing it with Sprint too. TM's problems most likely have more to do with the fact that east coasters and certain Midwest areas have spotty to bad coverage.

Here in Washington, down thru California and across to Texas I get great coverage on TM and for WAY less than I could possibly dream of getting on ATT or VZW. If ATT woulda been allowed to consume TM I would've been a Sprint customer the very next day.

T-mobile has always had the lowest market share of the big 4 carriers and is the only one that doesn't offer the iphone. It's future is bleak, that's why AT&T tried to buy it out to increase it's market share. Thankfully the Obama administration was covering the backs of us consumers and nixed the move to prevent even more market consolidation that would limit consumer choice.

If it wasn't for T-Mobile's spotty coverage, I might still be with them today.

It's ironic that unemployment keeps improving (they say) yet I'm not seeing many stories about 900 new jobs lately. I am however seeing stories every week or so about mass layoffs.

I wonder what the real unemployment number is. It's probably quite shocking.

Outsourcing...hmmm

Something smells. T-Mobile was one of the last men standing with call centers being local...Kiss them goodbye. Hello Phillapines, India and whoever else is wanting our money.

Not a good thing.
