Don't hang around pessimistic idiots and don't hang around this stupid blog unless you have a stomach for it. The reality is that you probably a bunch of disgruntled people that were jealous from being shut out of all the growth opportunities you have enjoyed. And they will do everything possible to make you feel miserable. Why? Because some people are just assholes. If you can't stomach it, find others to hang around. Pessimism is a disease. People with it need to be isolated so they can eallow in their own misery. For he rest of you folks, layoff happen all the time. Its unbelievable to Q folks because w has been immune to most of it for a long time. But rest assure, it will pass. Many of us have gone through layoff after layoff, and we are still here. No catastrophic long term loss. So there's a blueprint of many many people that have already gone throught his. You aren't the first. Good luck to you this week.

153093: I only hope my manager and director suffer. I think 2 out of about 30,000 is in the range of normal behavior.
LOL
Socialpath is a pathologically social idiot. Know your engrish! hahaha
HR could not care less about employees; their main concern is they don't want lawsuit. So they say "RIF/PIP in peace but don't sue the company"; that is their job.
RIF/PiP in Peace.
LOL
what is a socialpath? someone who too friendly or social?
Guys. I never said Qc wasn't disfunctional. And by all means
K agree with you. But there a several of you that are socialpaths that seem to enjoy hoping others suffer, mostly likely to the extent you have. Ithink the Q is pretty fcked up, but I don't get the socialpath mentality of actually hoping people suffer. Does it really improve your own situation? So now you got 2000 or so people on the job market. What if for whatever reason you go unemployed (you aren't as safe as you think). Do you really want 2000 people on the market with you? And if you aren't an engineer but work in the services business, what do you think will happen to your job once people cut their discretionary spending? Be careful what you wish for. Chances are you aren't really that.much higher up on the economic foodchain as you think.
OP keep sipping the coolaid and ignoring reality. QC is all rainbows, unicorns and lollypops
153031: Where does that post say 40 hrs. per week? Perhaps you have some sort of x-ray vision that the rest of us lack?
I work for a (sort of) competitor, I put in 35 to 50 hours a week. It's very rare that I go over 50. Was at QC from 1999 to to 2005.
@Anonymous153016, you must be a rookie. Most engineers work at least 50+ hours/week nowadays. So 60 hours/week is very normal. It's almost everywhere. Keep on dreaming working 40 hours/week. Maybe the government, but then your paycheck will be 30-40% less.
NEWSFLASH for OP: There are no more growth opportunities at QCOM for any of us to be shut out of! But next year, when most of us are safe in our new jobs, where the employers don't expect us to work more than 60 hours per week, and the work is interesting, don't ask us to put in a good word for you.
HR, go tell that to thousands of families who are about to lose their income.
If you hang around people who are positive about QC, you will never find out the real problem with QC. They will simply keep telling everyone that everything is fine, you will be fine, you will find another job. The fact is that QC has made big mistakes in investment and headcount growth. It is impossible to recreate QTL success and it needs to face reality. Growing with careful planning, not with the full frontal assault mentality it has taken with mobile chips. QC has over hired and it needs unwind and fire those people. So, let this be a lesson in you choosing your next company.
Yeah, I'm willing to bet there are maybe 10-15 people making all the negative, racists posts here. Most of us mainly lurk and don't say anything until we have something constructive to say. OP is 100% spot on.
you are so nice! now go cash your RSOs!
Melinda, thank you for this post. Also, thank you and other HR ladies for lovely bagels you brought when visiting our department in July.
OP is HR lady
You don't sound very friendly
