I think we all know AT&T is surplusing older employees. I was talking to a friend who is pretty far up at a large corporation over the weekend and she was saying health care costs for older employees are huge and her company is getting rid of older employees to avoid the health care costs. It's unethical and awful, but that's what they're instructed to do. I was telling my friend I was still confused why an excellent engineer I know was suplused. My friend asked how many kids this engineer had. I replied, "Five," and my friend was like, "That's why." Apparently health care costs are also huge for children, too. So, if you were surplused and you're "older" or have kids, that could be why.

ATT dumped Maintenance techs in CT a week ago. Union looked the other way
Sounds right, Verizon is doing the same thing. Frontier Communications picked up a few more states including Texas and California,
Keep believing the line and when you realize the company is going to outsource and downsize 80% by 2020 you will be gone.
Direct TV is all contractor with a few exceptions, Cloud services will be outsourced to data centers and controlled by company's like IBM for support.
Wireline will be gone, U-Verse will be gone. Mobility will be there but with very limited involvement by company people. Cell sites will be vendor worked.
MTSO's will be dark where possible. KoolAid anyone?
This last layoff, where the people are to be out by end of this month, it didn't seem that they were the most senior people. I think they all had about 10-20 years with 1 person offered to get laid off since she was wanting to retire anyway. We only had 10 people in engineering that were given their notice so it was all that many....out of about 175 people or so.
Most seniority is the number 1 goal.
Most seniority and highest paid have to be the ones sweating right now. "T" wants to cut the fat and this is how they'll do it.
Layoff is by least seniority employee not by age or how many kids you have, unless oh course you are a manager?
