Just went through R1 and hindsight is 20/20. I am fearful that some of us depending on organization will have to go through this again in 2016 if oil takes another dip but I wanted to put some tidbits out there as there was some confusion between different functions and the process. First you can't go wrong with an up to date work history and CDP. Take the time to put it in the system (painful) and also load a word document. Hopefully your mid year pmp was robust, if not book a meeting with your supervisor and make sure mgt is aware of all your accomplishments YTD. Don't give up if you had a less than avg ranking in the last three years, if you have picked up the pace and are delivering exceptional results ensure your customers and leadership know what you are doing. It does not hurt to talk directly to your PDR, GM etc. make sure they know you, what you have done and if you are currently a valued member of the team make sure they put in a word for you. So many of us are embedded with projects, assigned to teams or work in cross functional organizations and rarely talk to our functional reps it is important to have someone talk to your mgr or PDR on your behalf. Some of the older posts were extremely helpful, the newer posts are a bit more fatalistic but if you have the time to find them there are some useful threads on this board. Stay positive, continue to perform even if your motivations are selfish and remember don't start a new job till your six weeks is up or you are at risk of losing your severance package. Keep your chin up at the office and don't let them see you sweat through this process. If you look worried, haggard and worn out then guess what, that is what they will see and when you interview with other companies that is what they will see as well. Eat healthy, drink plenty of water, take your supplements and most of all remember that chevron is just a company.

So many just don't get it! Logic which should prevail but doesn't, its about comfort. That's why CVX is in trouble. It's not oil price, that's just the catalyst. Chevron has turned into a quasi national oil company, except were not part of a govt entity. At $100 we were fat dumb and happy! At $50 were not happy- welcome BCG! Now those that make others feel comfortable will likely stay. Think of it as "de-evolution"!
Houston just announced R1 results of 10 Petrotech TL jobs there was 1 change! Now I'm sure the others are fine performers, but are they really the best & brightest for those particular positions? No change is Good change apparently! I wouldn't hold high hopes!
YES OP YOU are correct. I just went through the ROM1 and now as people are preparing for ROM2 I agree with you advice. But I am going to take it a step farther, give them a one page sheet for them to use specifics in the ROM2 melee . I am quite dismayed that no one is deep diving into GO-400's, asking detailed questions to the ROM2 participants, asking for comparisons BY EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND RESULTS. People are just throwing out names and giving opinions and writing names on a board. I have sat down with my team and went through every detail on there GO-400. So when every one keeps saying Joe is the man, I say hold on now, I see Mary has a Degree from MIT in engineering and recently graduated with her MBA from Kellogg. Joe is high school educated is that right? Also Mary has layers of experience in drilling engineering . Here results are outstanding in the past year, which included better utilization of direction drilling interfacing with the seismic data, how does Joe compare to this.......and you get silence or yelling. But I keep repeating my teams specific results and overall competency. I am not sure I see Joes results here. You get my point. This is becoming a popularity contest of lazy people giving opinions not fact. I have not seen a manager prepare correctly for these ROM's. Take the imitative and schedule meeting with the players involved especially your super. My advice to all in the ROM2 is force the behavior for your manager as suggested above. Also I do not like one of my team members but the guy is fully competent and has a great attitude for the work. I openly discussed the friction between us but I will fight for him just as I would for the team member I really like. I know this is a rarity in Chevron and many times your super is not even qualified to be a team member let a lone a manager but fight the good fight. Eventually there will be a management change and the people that survive will be rewarded as the new leadership grows the business. Thanks OP for the post!
To the OP and readers, just sift through the comments and dismiss the slackers and mindless idiots who think they are the next Jay Leno. There are some useful nuggets of advise and good commentary on this site. You just need to tune out the trash from the helpful comments. I appreciate both negative and positive views from people, as long as they make a good case for the views they espouse.
Perfect vision
Thanks. What doeszmean "hindset is 20 by 20"?
OE moment?
All good advice, OP. Thank you. We certainly have some thoughtful posters out there.
