Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Will Staples and Office Depot Break up businesses as part of a deal to get FTC approved?

So, is the FTC waiting to approve the merger? Will Staples and Office Depot have to shed off some business to get there? What will happen to associates if this goes down?

I personally am appalled that the FTC is taking so long. The FTC should just say "NO" now and be done with it, and then the two companies can reel from that blow! Staples has f*cked enough with all the associates who lost their jobs, the lives that Staples have effected is not right! How will the families who are trying to make a living survive? Just because they needed to shed some fat! I have even heard of promotions going on with some teams. Mind you I am not talking about the retail side of the business. They promoted people just because they could and because they had basically promised these people awhile ago that they would be promoted! If they had to save money by getting rid of people, promotions be damned, that should not have happened for a least a year, the bodies of those who were forced to leave were still warm!

There are just some people there who have their heads in the wrong place! Don't get me wrong, I am all for promotions, but that is on merit and on time, not on pre-ordained schedules!

Also sorry to say that either way the brick and mortar stores lose huge. The only real difference is who decides and which stores and how fast. The FTC is far too ignorant of the real conditions to know that their decision will almost immediately add 15,000 to the unemployment roles with more to come.

Now here is the real sad news. It will happen if or if not the deal goes through. Again, only who, and immediately when, this decision is made is effected by the FTC decision. The loss of jobs happens NO matter what.

For all you highly compensated managers coming under increasing stress for things you can't control....it's their program and they hope you quit. They had expected to choose between you and the lesser paid Office Depot and Office Max managers after merger. Now they are thinking they have to just pressure you out like they have been doing for the last five years or so because the merger won't happen.

They will continue to find the ONE store out of a thousand that is performing well (ignoring all the special circumstances that store makes that store easier to manage) and hold it up as an example of WHY you SUCK!

My advice? Ignore them like they don't exist... because they don't. They are going away too. They just have not realized it yet. Dinosaurs.

The marching orders have already been given to the RVP's and DM's. So when your visit's get increasingly nasty in the next few days/weeks you will now know why. Smile say YESSIR and laugh your ass off after they leave your box.

I think the delay is "the Process". The FTC delayed this in order to develop more reasons to sh*t can this deal. I'm thinking the deal now only has a 30/70 chance. Gentleman, place your bets, or puts hehehe....

Write your congressperson. Tell him/her to propose laws that limit the earnings of ceos, svps, etc. Why should they have 2-3 houses, boats, etc. while you live paycheck to paycheck? File an adea complaint (age discrimination) with the eeoc. Write and complain to the FTC, Canada & the European Union (who must approve the buyout as well) and let them know about your serious concerns since the company doesn't giving a flying f*k. Don't bitch! DO SOMETHING! eeoc 25 Sudbury St, Boston, MA 02222 Phone:(617) 565-3200 MA congresspersons info http://www.congressmerge.com/onlinedb/cgi-bin/newseek.cgi?site=congressmerge&state=ma FTC email: antitrust@ftc.gov European Union antitrust: oib-courrier-central-mail@ec.europa.eu Canada competition bureau: http://www.competitionbureau.gc.ca/eic/site/cb-bc.nsf/eng/h_00019.html US Postal service - http://www.apwu.org/issues/stop-staples
