Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Immanent Layoffs Due to the Merger

No, wouldn't expect any till this time next year at the earliest. They've told media there's nothing planned at this time, and have even made a jab at HP saying "HP is way better at layoffs than we are". The deal won't be formally complete until this time next year. However, Dell took on considerable debt to finance this deal, and they've also told the media the focus will be on paying down that debt from calendar year 2016-2017. Considering the size of EMC I'd imagine layoffs would be in the works early 2017 to remove redundant and/or unneeded positions. Dell also wouldn't likely be in a position at that time to offer a VSP package like they did in February 2014 due to all the debt taken on. They'll also likely continue to curtail spending with measures like restricting travel to director level or higher for non-customer facing activities, curtail budgets for large projects, reign in benefits packages (goodbye PPO plan 2017), and make it nearly impossible to post new job roles (especially for external hires). However at this point if they announced a major layoff it would be a huge shot in the foot for Dell. Analysts are already questioning the large acquisition cost of a company in a deflating market space, and announcing a huge layoff would send signals that they couldn't really afford to take on the debt. This in turn would drive away commercial customers as they wouldn't want to purchase equipment or services from a company that's about to go under. HP is going to try and tell customers that this acquisition will be a huge distraction for Dell to try and lure away market share, but they've got their hands full with their company splitting in two. Overall I think it will become a much more cost constrained working environment, but we're used to that. Layoffs will likely happen in 2017, but only if Dell has another rough year.

Lots of rumors in DSG. Heard Quest was bought by VISTA Equity Partners and that Dell will still sell Quest software thru their 3rd party software division. All of middle management has a different story at this point. Meetings planned for 2/1, start of FY17 at 8am....expect to hear of big changes of some sort by then.

I don't quite get it. some layoff happened in DSG? Logically it is very true about VSP as dell can't afford it but this holiday season for dell employee will be blind side.

DSG (Dell Software Group) layoffs we're coming well before the EMC deal hit the press. The layoffs above are referencing a company wide layoff.

Right now I'd keep an ear out for what they're planning to do with the consumer division. Rumors are circulating around the office Dell is planning to spin off the consumer division to HP or Lenovo.

There's going to be plenty of indicators before a massive layoff happens. If they announce there's no chance at a bonus during the Q3 wrap up meetings I'd start updating my resume, especially if you're in the consumer division.
