Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

I am in leadership and I think it's time for team members to organize

been with the company 15+ years and have worked at all levels in stores and even some regional. this last week has been devastating personally and professionally, as well as to many people I work(ed) with and care about.

Trust me, if you are a store-level team member, You do not have a seat at the table when the exec leadership make these decisions. They see dollars and hours, not your work life balance, your mortgage, your college debt, your kids, your aspirations. They do not have your best interests in mind. They have an expense line in a spreadsheet they need to hit. They can't miss earnings for wall street. You are not the special sauce anymore. Vanguard and Goldman are.

You have been betrayed and this is the new direction of WF. The company of shared fate and core values is gone, just like my friends who put in 10, 15+ years.

If you stay at WF, organize and have a collective voice. You can bring in a union or start your own with your friends and coworkers. start with those you can trust and stick together. When they play this hunger games crap to pit you against each other, stick together, go down with a fight. The more crap you swallow, the worst it will keep getting. get to a point where you and your coworkers can bargain and negotiate with leadership. when they take your labor down by a point or cut back hours, stand together and say no. if they push back, walk out, shut it down, take the day off. get customers on your side. you are their first line of contact and you are part of the community. let them know how horribly you are being treated, find those willing to support you and keep them in your network.

Trust me this, the leadership teams are well organized and have their party line they will stick to.

get organized, have courage and it will inspire others, there are more of you than them.

blessings

Sure join a union. So they can decide a contract for you. Then when both parties disagree there will be threats of the strike. And then nobody wins. Unions are really stupid you're not for grocery stores maybe for the NFL or the airports but not the grocery store

Viva la Resistance! I vote Union! It's now or never TMs. Think about it, Tom Brady, the face of the NFL needed a Union to save himself from the Powers of the NFL. A QB worth millions of dollars having a Union to back him up aND to defend him. Together we are much stronger and louder. 6 SW -Region stores have already started gathering TMS signatures and contact info to organize a Union. Unity is Power!

Trott, if you think it is such a great idea then why don't you lead the charge? Oh right, you would rather sit back and let the TM's stick their necks out and get fired in hopes of possibly saving your job. Florida got it right, why you received second and third chances I have no clue. I was never fooled/conned by your "fast talking mumbling so as to confuse everyone into thinking you were smart" crap. I had your number from day one. I did my best to stay away from you, try cutting those nasty dirty dreads and taking a bath on the regular, WFM does sell soap in your new dept. right?

Please do this TMs! It works! I was in Gatwick airport years ago when the entire British Airways staff walked out for an hour with demands. The whole airport was backed up. Unionizing is not only needed at Whole Foods but every corporation. This kind of organizing is needed to balance out the terms, otherwise the ones at the top can make what ever decisions they want (exhibit A). Having a union is what helps make a company a GOOD company.

This is awesome! how can we start? resources? What are our legal safety nets that we can use to not get canned tomorrow for merely mentioning the word "union"?

I think we should really think about organizing before they force us to take pay cuts, go part time and take our benefits. Every year the health insurance deductible becomes more and more unreasonable. A union could prevent that from happening.

I'd love nothing more to gift them with a union before I leave this sinking ship.
