Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What keeps you working at Chevron?

There's so much negativity and company bashing on this forum lately. As a change of pace, tell us what keeps you working at Chevron. Why have you not quit and gone elsewhere to work?

Doubt it. He retired a year ago. In his tenure there were so many people hired that we had to rent 4 additional buildings in Covington to house everyone. We went from 1 office in Covington to 5.

I'm coming back to Chevron on Nov 1. I retired two years ago, but they called me and begged me to come back. I'm here to tell everyone that I will be cleaning house if I discover slacks and ass kissers in my path. I plan to crack the whip and get down to pure business. I won't post my name here for obvious reasons but my fame will be known far and wide.

Similar to what others have said:

9/80, work/life balance (going home on time most days), interesting work, great coworkers, 401k match, health benefits, family oriented (look out for each other).

Sure it has it's problems, but I haven't worked for or heard of a company that doesn't.

Chevron is a great company to work. Most of the negative posts on here are from entitled malcontents. To be fair, its not a perfect company. Chevron is way too politically correct, and PRC definitely needs to be reigned in. But there is no such thing as a perfect company. I have worked for 3 companies and Chevron has treated me the best by a mile.

I am still working at Chevron because they moved me to a city with very little opportunity for employment outside of Chevron.

The "free food" offered at meetings are a thing of the past (for at least 9 months now), perhaps with some exceptions for high-level executive meetings. However, there used to be many times that breakfast, lunch and snacks will be served in abundance. Sometimes, we would be treated to nice lunches off-site once or twice a month just after recurring meetings. Almost seemed we scheduled the meetings just to have lunch. Lol. ... But no more.

Another governmental agency. Work little get paid a lot, great benefits and nobody bosses you around unless things get critical.

Anonymous168405 Agree, Chevron is only good for the money one makes. Other than that this place is not the best fit for someone with values and plans to step up the ladder by good deeds.

I'm in round 3. Been here 10 years. Guess we will see if I am here in Nov/Dec. I have worked at 2 other non-O&G companies. This is what I like about Chevron: SAFETY Culture (They review, talk and make plans - at least they try. Better than most companies), PEOPLE Development (I see it happening for others in multiple functions, even my grade moves around a bit. At least they talk about it, look at it, have meetings on it and action - LOTS of other companies do not do this), Majority have been good BOSSES (yes had a couple that were not) and of course the MONEY.

ive noticed after 28 years their, they do not hire handicapped people,,if your older than 60 they seem to want you out of there, your a burden and useless to them.if your a latino that's another strike against you.if you play golf with the boss that's a plus and attractive woman, your on your way up the ladder quick.but that must be standard procedure at may jobs,,their an aggressive company and will try to eat their rivals, they will survive this oil glut, but it might not be with you,,,

I wouldn't mention your bright idea of starting this "all is well" topic, on your PMP. It shows you have little respect for those losing their jobs. When this is all over, you should go back to working at Macy's.

I like the way Chevron looks out for me. I eat at my desk and get computer aids telling me to stand up and stretch, maybe even walk around a bit.

I have to thank my relative for hiring and promoting me up the chain. I have no worries about RIFs or ROMs. Chevron has been very good to our families. I could not make this much money in the real world.

I agree with all 3 previous posters. Chevron is an excellent company for all the benefits mentioned below. One is blessed to work here for the most part.

For me is that I make a lot of money for almost nothing ... I very much dislike all the polical correctness and bull shit with all the chevron way and safety useless meetings.

At the end of the day I go home and enjoy my home, vehicles, and college education for my kids. Once I leave the office, chevron doesn't exist.

I work with great people on very interesting projects. I have virtually free reign to develop my own work the way I see fit. The management team in Manufacturing is smart, passionate, and really wants to do it right. They also recognize that there is way more work than we can possibly get done with what we have.

I've been at this for 32 years and have never had a dull moment.

For me it's the 9/80 schedule, the 401K match, and only having to work 40 hours a week.
