Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Is this reorg likely to be a one time thing and over by December or happen several more times in the near future?

I agree with Which "Project". If you survive this round, management will bank on making your life miserable to the point that you leave on your own. It's a sneaky way to avoid paying severance.

You must not have much experience at Chevron. I have seen ROMs hit about every two years. It's never over. Get used to it.

Chevron to make another acquisition? Have you seen their financials? They will be 14 Billion dollars in the red on cash flow? They will struggle to pay the electric bill let alone an acquisition. They are trying to wholesale assets for liquidity. I am not sure if people truly understand the situation we are in. The other majors did not spend 80 billion since 2011. Chevron went the f*** off spending and now we will get ass raped for it!

Usually ROMs occur in waves. When everything is wonderful (oil price is up), you'll go years between ROMs, but when you go into a downturn, the ROMs will continue until the economy improves. The ROMs will rotate between the various operating and subsidiary companies, so maybe your org won't have another ROM for 18 months, but somebody else's group will have one next January. A wildcard is whether Chevron makes a big acquisition while prices are down. If so, you can count on another ROM to merge the workforces.

If you are a new hire, a wave of ROMs is the best thing that can happen for your career as it will leave the cupboard bare and when things turn around in a few years and the positions are added back, you won't have any competition.

BCG was retained for not only one restructuring. Certain BU's AMBU and CBU will go through another reorg. AMBU's will start again in late September. I only know this because I was asked to "help" on these BU's. Help was sharing with me the intentions and then never getting back with me??? Of course another ROM was never shared with those BU's nor will they say there is another one when asked. But I would be surprised if they do not reorg again. Not particularly even lay off 25% or 1% but we know this will fail because its Chevron and they will come in again and shake it up, move employees all over the place to say they are addressing the issues. This is how BCG keeps churning profit.

Are you referring to Alpha, Rae, Project D, or the inevitable "align with our colleagues" part? It sounds like they are cutting dead weight, the knowledge (gray hairs out the door), and the "We think Manila can handle this". Our fates have already been decided and beyond our control. Most have come to this conclusion, which is just what they want.... to make those not deemed worthy so fed up with this charade to walk away, and those deemed worthy thankful (at least to a point of appreciating the paycheck). If you survive this one, wait five or so years, there will be another.
