Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

AMBU - No Future @ Chevron

Very few AMBU folks got positions and that was when there were positions in Chevron. THERE WILL BE NO PDC THIS FALL!!!!!!! So that means the eliminated positions will be layoffs. Every part of Chevron is cutting at least 1 in 5 at a minimum. I really don't think folks understand there are NO JOBS TO TRANSFER TO. Wait and see how fing dysfunctional this ROM process is. I did make several calls to AMBU to see exactly how the process worked. They had the first ROM which was senior management of the BU. They of course made no changes in the biggest joke in leadership in all of Chevron. Everyone remained in position. Then the leadership picked their allies and friends. There was no true consideration of performance, education, experience, and or salary etc. They put people in positions with out a high school educations and if that was not bad enough, no experience in the position EVER!!!!!! They put an IT manager in Drilling and Completions as a technical advisor. I am not being funny or exaggerating! I would put the names down but it is not the employees fault. I did not believe this but 5 employees verified it that I knew at AMBU!!!! One of my close friends got out of there and said its worse than anyone can verbalize. I know of 5 EXTREMELY competent employees that got let go in the AMBU ROM. When I asked why, the answer was they were a threat as in they made leadership look bad by using Chevron Way behaviors and questioning EXTREMLY BAD DECISION MAKING. These 5 employees were not only known in Chevron but the industry. We are talking High Performers in the real world not in the Chevron bull shit. I was SHOCKED!!! And the dumbass's that we all know and hate GOT FING PROMOTED. When I heard those names I shit myself at some of the selections So if we are expecting some sense of justice don't even think that will come true. The more you have performed and put your neck out for the business is the more you become a target. Call up to AMBU and asked, don't take my word for it, and guess what the VP kept saying???? We will, with out a doubt, put the right people in the right position. That is what my leadership is saying???? Oh and guess what, AMBU is much worse than before the ROM. Canada is now on the block. It will be the same outcome. So grab your ass with both hands and get ready for the ride. P.S. I am interviewing and I just got a call for a third and final interview. I can only be so lucky to get the hell out of here.

@2Vjbj Vicente Ruiz was a superintendent for drilling in AMBU. This kid was mid 20's and from Colombia or Venezuela, he cost Chevron around 10 million for botched rig moves in AMBU. He had rigs moving over 50 miles to the next well pad when there was a rig 8 or 10 miles away that would be pulling off a site in 2-3 weeks. If you know what it costs in permitting, planning, and executing a rig move then you will understand what I am talking about. He was a major contributor to the overspending that led to the failure in that area, after Chevron sold off its AMBU assets he moved into another position in Houston. So many DSM/WSM lost their jobs, intelligent and dedicated working men. Culture hire kept a job though.....

Is Chevron Corp laying off AMBU employees?

I spent three years in AMBU and can say that they are truly incompetent, if you were competent you lost your job. If you were a dumb--s you kept your job. Multiple people in operation's ( you construction dept ppl know who I'm talking about ) were taking huge kickbacks.

I'll have to admit, I ran across this form, and even though most posts (if not all) are over 2 years ago, I am surprised how nasty people are.

What is the feeling at AMBU now?

Have they been humbled after the layoffs? Are people still scared that more layoffs are coming with project delta? Or are they concentrating on other units now?

Best advice....GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL HAVE YOUR DIGNITY! Chevron is now the laughing stock and joke of the O& G community. The leadership...or lack thereof..is a mess. They are trained liars. Coworkers and mgmt claim to look out for you....I call Bvllsh*t!!! Look at what happened then and now...leaders are jumping ship for a reason. You really think Stephanie B is looking out for you???!! Please! Wake up! The smart ones left a long time ago. They even made a rap video (on the company dime) about it. Some people should really keep a shirt on. The writing is on the wall. Just read it.

If you get put out on the street consider yourself lucky. Chevron is the joke of the Appalachian Basin and you will have to overcome the bad stigma of being associated with such a loser company. Of course we all know it's all the Atlas Energy people that are the problem. The reason the Atlas organization was running like a well oiled machine, pardon the pun, drilling 400+ wells a year with nothing but hillbilly inbred employees in know way compares with the incompetence of the Chevron regime unable to maintain a drilling schedule containing 50 wells.

The hillbilly in-bred comment is not mine it's from a Chevron asshat that made that comment on another AMBU Layoff website post.

i cannot believe that they made an IT manager into D&C technical advisor. that cannot be true.

I know the D&C folks out in AMBU. their drilling manager quit and got another job, but their current guy is a driller in background.

who are these 5 let go who were known in the industry? what's wrong with posting that here? They do not work at chevron anymore.

I worked at AMBU. I moved there because I grew up in Pittsburgh. I knew it was broke within a week. I left for another company right before the reorg. Almost every position that was filled was a shock to me. Some of the Legacy Atlas people that should have been terminated at the close of the deal got promoted....why?? they kissed ass. You know how screwed up Chevron is. HES, Facilities, HR, D&C, Construction, Operations....all promoted the worse of the bunch. Mind numbing as a reorg is when you can those people.

The reorg actually created project teams to drive accountability for the functional groups. Great change actually until they filled the positions with Horizon kids and or D&C flunkies.

They did not do a look back at AMBU reorg. Why? It is jaw dropping bad!

Other companies are not perfect but Chevron never gets it right. They are paying for their sins now and you better bet your ass share holders will demand change.

You are so right! I was at AMBU and not selected because of the same situation... and someone was promoted that had no experience... Talking about setting them up for failure in the real world. The severance is great if you have the time in, but if you don't good luck, it will take 6 months to get a job that is if your lucky....

BP, Conoco, Exxon, Shell, service companies (Hal, Baker Hughes), ALL are experiencing huge layoffs. Nothing magic about it, just the most expeditious route to bolstering cashflow/profit when oil prices tank. (You didn't really expect "management" to have any OTHER plans, did you?) If you're not "out', yet, get a grip, because it's going to be a rough ride. Read the layoff blogs out there, everyone's panicked. It's the same in every company. Engineers think everyone else will be let go (stupid, because guess where the higher salaries are?). HR is on everyone's shit list (except management's). If it weren't so bizarre and frightening, it would be funny. And, if anyone expects 'fairness' and 'reason' to prevail, be real. In a politically correct culture, like Chevron's, weasels thrive. C'est la vie.

Because Chevron is the last Company to go through the process, any jobs that might have been available are already taken by people fired before us. Yes I said fired because your position is not coming back until oil goes up and that will be a long time from now. Dust off your resumes just in case your need it. A lot os Contractor and employees have already been axed.

As a former employee I feel for all that is impacted.

Anonymous 113466 is correct. High performers, advanced degrees and those who question management practices are weeded out - at least that was my experience during accelerated downstream.

The almighty council displaced me, found a new position for me in a new OPCO, only to have the new manager treat me badly to the point that I resigned.

I don't have specific knowledge about Project Alpha or current decision making by the bldg A 4th floor folks but am confident that the target list is already drawn up. Management will flat out deny that you are affected or that they are eliminating the position and not the person. I volunteered to pay for my own move to Houston in order to keep my job, but management said 'no'.

Keep in mind that when surveys are being conducted, it is a sign that something is wrong with the company or cut backs are soon to follow.

Good luck to all. Hang in there for as long as you can and wait for the severance package. It's usually x weeks based on service years in addition to 6 months of job hunting assistance such as resume writing.
