Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Are tech sales supervisors supposed to be opening/closing the store on a daily basis?

I was a FT team sup and went to tech sales sup after we moved to tier 4. My previous tech sup never closed or opened and i heard that the tech sup should not be an MOD or open/close except to cover lunches or emergencies. My DM sent a mock schedule that the tech sup was to work mid shifts everyday(10-6) and im closing 3 times a week and opening once. Arent the GM and AM supposed to be splitting the open/closes. Am i getting screwed or is this happening in other stores also?

As a former ETE who has held keys for more than 10 years. The answer is yes. If you are a trusted solid employee they will require you to become an MOD / Key Holder. With great power comes great responsibility. If any of you care to read your job descriptions there is a small statement in everyone of them that reads, and anything else we ask you to do..... Maybe not quite worded that way, but similar. It's simply a cost saving measure that allows any company to use a trusted employee to fill certain management responsibilities without paying the price... In the name of becoming a more valuable employee we agree to do it......... Until the point comes we reach our maximum pay grade and start costing the company money and we get replaced. To quote a movie on a different twist.. "The Circle of Employment". You are either the hunter or the hunted. All depends on your degree of usefulness and the cost of that usefulness.

You should only have keys to cover vacations. Your keys were taken away a long time ago. But as someone else has mentioned anything is possible. It's not going to get any better. It's not going to change for the better. We all know this. I feel bad for the ones left behind. It's a s*** show.

At this point, anything is possible.Eventually, they will come down on you because you are not getting enough tech work. Meanwhile you are doing more MOD tasks.

It was part of the Otis plan to cut costs...ET supervisors are key holders (even suppose to wear grey shirts) but if they are MOD, they are to have ET backup. What other retail operation turns the keys of a multi million dollar store over to a low paid FT associate... asking alot of a person making $10 per hour..

The only difference between a Tier 4 store being closed on the 4th and a Tier 4 store being closed permanently is timing. Tier 4 stores are marked for closing... I doubt 1 in 100 will survive past July 2016... Plan on hanging on for a severance (they won't make that easy) or finding a way out on your terms.

It seems that was the plan, eliminate team supervisors, put the work load on IS, ETS, and MTS without giving any extra pay to them to fatten the bonuses of Ron Sargent and his cronies.
