Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Accured vacation time left over more than a week? not for much longer

I suspect the release of these 'confidential emails' is probably staggard at this point to zero in on those leaking the information, but I feel a responsibility to pass along changes as I hear them. So, for all those in the Higher Ed Group; after starting the latest internal memo with 'At Follett we believe that a balance between work and non-work activities is essential to maintaining overall wellness and a positive and productive work environment' the Home Office made the following change;

Effective 19 March 2016; You are only permitted a carryover of time off from last year of 80 hours max.

Effective 24 December, 2016; you are only permitted a carryover of time off from last year of 40 hours max.

Have excess hours on top of that? To bad, so sad. No payouts for those periods, and I should add this includes personal days.

The excuse is typical; 'this brings our policy in line with national benchmarks and best practices in the industries in where we compete' (read; not OUR fault, this is how the industry is, lololololz!)

My opinion is fairly clearly here. But I've tried to keep it out of the actual message. If you are in a position where this advanced copy has not already reached you, expect it within 24-48 hours. Happy Independence Day everyone!

Think how many employees will just lose this PTO time and how much the company will reclaim.

They used the same logic to justify the layoff; We need to serve the customer better so we laying off people who have years of experience servicing the customer. We want you to use the PTO so we're taking it from you.

Check your state's labor law. That policy is not legal in all 50 states.

with this new policy are we capped at 40 hours at any given time after march 19th? or will pto in excess of 40 hours be cut on march 19th? the email sent out is vague enough to be interpreted both ways. "Any PTO carryover in excess of 40 hours after March 19th will be lost."

Yep, continued reduction in benefits. They know many cannot reduce the PTO balance due to work committments and therefore will lose it. They don't care about work life balance. Employees are disposable at Follett, to be replaced by kmarts, sears and office max clowns.

Think about it. Why did they pick March 19th? Because that is just before the end of the fiscal year. The less rollover you have at the end of the fiscal year, the better the bottom line looks.

The email that came out says that we have to be down to 40 hours by March 19, 2016. That is going to make it hard to save up for Spring vacations. Follett stinks.

Funny, I had so much time I stopped accruing. Couldn't take vacation, because when I did, I spent half my time answering emails and answering calls. Such BS that work-life balance. No such thing at Follett. You are ALL IN. Time away from the office does NOT mean that you have stopped working. Point about cooking the books is right, accrued time counts as liability against financials, so they don't want you to have lots of time banked.

It gets even better. Not only did they cut carryover, they also moved the 'use it or lose it' date into December. That meant that AFTER you were down to 80 hours, you had to use some of it for the mandatory xmas shutdown. That meant that by the time January rolled around you had less than 80 hours. The email about it was pretty cryptic, so read carefully.because I'm sure they will get around to FHEG. They seem to hit FSS first.

FSS had their carryover PTO cut to 80 hours last year. FHEG apparently got an extra year before they cut your PTO carryover, but then FSS seems to be the red headed step child. We always seem to get the shaft.

Ha! They are doing this to make the books look better. Any PTO on the books is counted as a liability against the bottom line. If you quit they have to pay out that money.

It is felt that this forces employees to take regular time off and thereby maintain a work life balance. That's one hell of a spin they got there. What are they on and where can I get some?
