Todays layoffs needed to happen. I know it is a hard fact to face, but it was nessesary. The layoffs were not the problem, how those let go were chosen, now that is the problem.
University of Phoenix grew too big too fast and in the process many people were promoted to
management and upper management that were not ready and not trained. The rapid growth allowed the wrong people to be placed into the wrong positions and that began the downfall. In addition, salaries went through the roof and enrollment as a whole began making way too much money. Now here we stand. We have management with poor leadership skills- the only place they are leading us is into the ground. We have enrollment advisors making 60-80k that are more worried about playing on their phones and streaming videos while they dial LM3s that they know will never pick up for hours rather than working hard to find and retain the right students. I swear if these people had to get another job today they would be lucky getting a job making 30k with their skills, but they managed to hit the UOP lottery at just the right time and did shady shit to enroll and get those 20% increases every 6 months and now they are lazy and overpaid. Meanwhile, you do have the few enrollment reps that work hard to do what is right for our students.
UOP needs to end this now. It is time to stop accepting mediocrity and raise the standards. Today many hard working people were let go, even some hard working pregnant people, while other lazy, overpaid, shady ERs stayed only to live another day of ping pong playing fun while our ship sinks. It is time to stop getting rid of talent, time to recognize talent and get the right people in the right positions and get rid of the the toxic waste- and there is a lot of it! Look around, there are way too many useless employees that are bringing us down because they can enroll and throw stuff at the wall, but they enroll crap and can't retain. It is time to trim the fat and recognize the worthy!!!! How can we expect our University to rise above and be the best if we don't even set any standards for our employees? We have created an entitlement culture within the company and it is time to put and end to it. WORK for your paycheck! And be rewarded for performance when you exceed the expectations! It is so simple it makes me crazy.
