Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Disembursement or dibursement or reward letter

The majority of our students are ignorant black people that cannot even say the word "disbursement". We also have a lot of white trash students as well that say equally as ignorant things. I had a student tell me that she had just received her reward letter, not "award letter" like I had told her several times. Every call I get is from a student asking about their excess funds. That is all they care about.

Our students are nothing but ignorant, lowlife, pieces of shit that have no source of income and live off of the excess funds they receive.

Talking to these losers every day is actually quite sad.

Do not forget those ignorant students (as you call them) have to pay those loans back with interest! why do you work somewhere like that if you cannot stand the students, they are the only reason you have a job.

Looks like you are in the wrong job to assist someone. You should be laid off

You have now shown more ignorance than the students you so judgementally spoke of. Congrats on showing your intelligence and emotional level. Ever heard of an educated fool?

I attend UoP and I am far from low life and yes some may depend on this for income . Who am I to judge they may be trying to better themselves, everyone is not born with a silver spoon. As for the race thing I came from a family of educators, lawyers, doctors, political scientists, and even Doctors of research for NASA. I am educated and pursuing a higher degree. I have a coolege education and my husband and I make money and own properties. So, with that being said everyone is not the same and also in the past I didnt have credit worthiness. Not everyone is perfect and I am in my 30' s. Stereotypes is a dressed term for ignorance!
Good Day :)$

I guess I am one of those low lives because, I have the GI Bill and I also have federal benefits. I call to ask about funds around the time I am use to seeing them to ensure they have everything and if there is an expected date. I don't spam call I just call once and ask and as a disabled veteran the money helps a lot.

I have to say that the institution has done an excellent job placing systems in place to help prevent as much fraud as possible. In fact, millions have gone into these systems and millions of federal aid funds have been saved from fraudulent activity. Something that I haven't seen other non proprietary school invest into. Yes, UOP deals with a bigger population of people who shouldn't be in school but it's not legally right to judge someone. If lending create a system that would require a sort of "creditworthiness" school FICO maybe this can be avoided.

Camden - there's very minimal financial advantage in the short-term for the fraudulent student. If cost of attendance is roughly 5500 in their first semester and they are awarded max pell and max loans that would roughly equal to $16k annually (8k/semester). The student walks away with $3k in excess or $8k if they choose to manage own funds. Again this problem is with lending. If the student bails and doesn't earn that disbursement the school has to send back money. Any tuition owned by that time would probably go unpaid which means write off to bad debt for institution.

@Anonymous135808, what's the financial advantage (even short term) of a poor person going to the University of Phoenix? Don't the grants and loans take up all the money? How much money is left so that they can spend the money for rent, car payments?

Well obviously these people are smart enough to pick up enough slack to get by each course and get a check. Otherwise, they would not be making it past their first 2 or 3 courses (although rather simple goal setting, preparing for academic success and basic writing). It's obvious that they are there for the money but the school cannot pass judgement based on these matters as it can lead to other legal issues of discrimination. This is an issue with LENDING practices as these students exist everywhere and A LOT of them. Desperate people will do desperate things. This includes lying on applications such as those administered by the government to get any assistance (food stamps, welfare, unemployment, etc.) FEDS: CHANGE THE SYSTEM, DONT BAIL OUT THOSE WHO CHEAT IT, BAIL OUT THOSE WHO PUT INTO IT AND HAVE SUCCESSFULLY USED IT TO PROMOTE ECONOMIC GROWTH.

@Walter Sobchak Finance Advisor, so what have you done to repair the damage you did for eight years? If you really are African American, don't you feel guilty for your role?

@153 Do not feel sorry for these low life's.

They know exactly what they are doing.

All they care about is their excess funds check from their "disembursement"

They don't care about dropped courses or non passing grades until they find out it will affect there second "disembursement"

Bunch of f***ing losers

@777 First things first I am a person of color so suck my big black cock.

Second of all nothing I said was racist so suck my big sweaty black balls.

You try being a Finance Advisor at this school for 8 years like me and then see how your attitude is.

You can only talk to so many ignorant low life people before it breaks you.

@ Walter--thank you for being so refreshingly honest. I don't miss having to talk to these morons masquerading as students. I don't blame the EAs, but I do blame the executives for admitting anyone with a pulse. These students had no business in school, and all they were concerned about was their excess funds. It didn't matter their race, UOP caters to the dregs of every culture. I often had to use the mute because I couldn't contain my laughter. Seriously, someone told these students they should go to school. The sad thing is many were just pushed on for months, and some actually 'graduated' ...err... BOUGHT their degrees. What these walking retards don't know is real employers don't recognize their fake credential. Actually, people laugh at these people who walk around taking about their UOP "edumacation." The FTC will find this school committed willful fraud and the courts will allow students to file for refunds. It should be shuttered by the end of 2018. I enjoy watching the idiot executives spin in answer to the federal investigators. This bird is cooked.

Gee, someone with morals probably wouldn't be helping saddle them with life long debts courtesy of taxpayer dollars. How typical you would blame people who came from nothing and were aggressively marketed and lied to by 5 layers of admissions reps whose entire job depends on putting as much meat in the seats as they can. Nope that isn't the problem, poor black people who live on $2/day are. Priceless.

@Walter: You're a mess! you should not be working in any school with your racist personality. You should not be on this planet as far as I'm concerned. U of P does target a certain demographic but your job is not to discriminate. People from all walks of life are still people and should be treated with dignity and respect. Shame on you!

@Walter Sobchak, you sound like a COWARDLY member of management or one of their cronies. I'm not sure how much people understand how racism and other forms of hate have affected University of Phoenix over the years........................... http://www.eeoc.gov/eeoc/newsroom/release/11-10-08.cfm...................................What gets me is that many people at Apollo Group and University of Phoenix would not have jobs if it weren't for the increased number of African Americans matriculating (and graduating) from University of Phoenix and the support and credibility the school has gotten from Al Sharpton, the NAACP, and 47 HBCUs..............................................................http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/25/university-of-phoenix-minority-students_n_2011893.html...................................................http://www.colorlines.com/articles/are-profit-colleges-answer-black-students
