Thread regarding Follett layoffs

SM "Retires"

Another long term employee has "retired". New hire from the big three promoted to role after one year. If you have significant experience there is a bulls eye on your back.

Amazing- take the write down at the disti center and claim how much less they're carrying in inventory on hand. Bonus!?

Follett is now where NBC was. No textbook experience at the home office (still some fine experience at the store level but the kmart/sears/office depot folks think Retalon can replace experience and knowledge and centralize at home office). Significant markdowns in process at the distribution center. Boom boom, boom boom, boom boom.....that is the heart beat of the college bookstore industry - textbook management and knowledge. Remember that presentation folks!

Their plan was clear; get rid of experience. Look what they did in the stores when they laid off 600+ employees. Those who'd been with the company long enough to have earned benefits also earned targets. There were scores more who were manipulated and bullied until they couldn't take it any longer and left. So, the company decided those who worked so hard to make the company successful, they should start a new career, retire or simply disappear. They weren't paying severance to that group. Now, this is happening in HO. The company's management is predatory and Todd and the family sit idly bye like emperors enjoying the spectacle. Keep fiddling you jack asses. Your feeble tune is all you have left.

NBC did the same thing. Brought in person after person from Target. That's all fine and dandy until you chase all the textbook people out and get people with no experience buying textbooks making the decisions about buying textbooks. It also was a morale hit in the field because rarely did anyone internally move up. If you worked at Target, you were money.
