Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Milestones achieved

People easily forget the milestones UOP and its employees have accomplished since 1976. People forget the many actual lives they positively changed. People forget how much risk it takes to operate an uncertain business model that not many (if any) actually ever attempted. UOP did and they have done a tremendous job going from zero to nearly worlds largest. BRAVO! So keep your heads up Phoenix's! Don't let negative people running a "Layoff" site mislead you.

@257 - maaaan, I'm blinded by these huge clouds of smoke you're blowing!! How did this go from your perception on credits not being transferable to your fallacies on financial aid processes??

Are you kidding! Finance advisors are being told to lie now and figure out the rest later. All 359 to 367 c codes are backlogged for months at SFS. Students are being tossed into class regardless of resolution and if the file comes back 2 months later unresolved, we are tossing them straight into collections. Tell me how this is fair to people. Ruining their credit and their ability to move forward in school. All the work they put in just to be lied to and thrown to the dogs.

Maybe you should also seek medical diagnosis from WebMD. They're all legit sources of information.

@086&115 - whatever! You two were probably horrible reps anyway. Quality is in the service you provide your students. Graduation rates provided are not a clear picture of actual results. Keep in mind that many students also attend UOP as a bridge to other universities. Therefore, grad rates suffer when people enroll to take a few courses, transfer and finish elsewhere. Again, it's pointless speaking to people like you because again you are total idiots! Do us all a favor and GO AWAY!

696- Whatever, you are obviously worthy of all the bad perception UoP has surrounded itself with. The military has a no advertising stance, yet UoP violated every aspect of that to ingratiate themselves at all levels and disseminate PR garbage intended to suck billions in GI dollars while giving these veterans putting their lives on the line absolutely nothing of value in return. ITT did the same thing, preying upon poor and often disabled veterans wanting good jobs and instead saddling them with debt and sucking their hard earned benefits dry. There is a special place in hell for you and your ilk.

@131147--I'm so tired of the empty-headed shills--and you count among the idiots in this category--who defend the indefensible in UOP and their grow-at-all-cost mentality. It has NEVER been about providing a quality education. I have worked in academics with this school for a decade, and the students that I have encountered were barely literate. They displayed no real critical-thinking skills. Again, UOP has a higher default rate than ANY public entity or private liberal arts school. You can pretend that UOP and other for-profit schools offer quality and that the school is respected, but you are in the minority. This school graduates imbeciles, people who are incapable of critical-thinking, writing grammatically cogent and cohesive messages and letters, and functioning as well-rounded and engaging human beings. This pretend college is going to fail because of the facade of rigor and standards has been torn as under by the abysmal outcomes produced. How can a school call itself a success when it's online graduation rate less than 7%? The sooner the Feds turn off the Title IV and VA spigot, the better for the aimless students and weary taxpayers.

@841 - the article says nothing but just simply a point of view. UOP sent many employees and encourages employees to volunteer their time to many charities across the Phoenix and other areas across the nation. We wore our UOPx shirts not because we were forced to but because we are proud to. This wasn't with intent to recruit people from these events, it was simply to show our support and encouragement that we are all one and everyone deserves a lending hand or simple appreciation. A practice that many employers and people should exercise more often. You Sir are a f*cktarrrd!!

@841 - yes, allegedly all this happened. Probably again a group of anti-UOPers looking to scruitinize a fine university because of personal dislikes. UOP serves a good amount of our military providing quality access to higher education while in active duty. So don't discredit the hard work of our nations heroes because you feel like putting in your stupid sense. Bring me facts and then I'll believe you. Until then your sh1t still is just plain sh1t!

0847-Yeah right, spoken like a true moron. Resources to tell them what exactly, that it will be a mathematical impossibility that 99% of graduates will ever pay off the mountains of debt? What resource tells them their degree costs 10 times its market value and that the vast majority of their dollars get spent on everything under the sun except education? What resource tells them that their degree will be laughed at when they apply for jobs? Maybe you failed to see the article 2 months ago about this 'fine institution' bribing the military to sucker veterans? Plenty of first line employees here describing the graft going on from all levels of management to the top. No buddy, the f***s stops here with you and no amount of excuses change that bald fact.

@130841 - if anyone is a f...ing is you! Lending practices is what causes stupid debt. There are plenty of conversations and resources that inform students on their financial commitments and future responsibilities. By the way, UOP probably goes beyond explaining this over many other schools. You think it was the home builders or sellers who put people into homes they couldn't afford? No! It was the banks who were lending money to people who couldn't afford it. This led to the housing market crash, and then economic catastrophe. You and the rest of your kind need to stop blaming the institution.

Glass house - F*** you... Seriously.. People who think they're doing a great job are a lot of why this criminal empire has managed to screw EVEN MORE students and ruined even more lives. You haven't helped anyone, you've helped these crooks saddle even more people with life destroying debt that they can't ever shake. People are going to kill themselves because of your 'help' and the permanently destructive debt you've piled on them.

If you hate the school so much they why even bother. Hate is ugly and a waste of time, it gets you no where. I can't say we are happy about what is going on, but you are no better then what your saying uop is.

@129864 - I'm sure your documents Are completely accurate and not manipulated to show a one sided story to help for personal gains. The university has many resources in place to help prevent fraudulent and incompliant activity. Is it flawless? Probably not. However, I would assume the systems in place help prevent much of it unless it was intentionally rigged by unethical employees. Hope your documents are legit and not misleading as this can I assume be considered a criminal misrepresentation and defamation. It's not fun doing hard time for something someone might consider it a joke to put a university and thousands of employees at stake.

@129690--are you a f***ing retard? UOP has a higher default rate than any public school system, and it's undergrad completion rate is around 7%. This school is a sham and the FTC will likely find evidence of sleaze in the recruitment of students. I've sent my documents to the DoE, and so have others. I look forward to this dump closing.

What's so different from other institutions? Tax money goes into them. They're graduation rates are still around 50% or less and yet they still have a large number of in-debt students, many who have no jobs, student loans and possibly on the brink of defaulting. Yet, they are not open enrollment, they're selective and still have poor outcomes. People need to learn that the problem doesn't simply lie at the university level. There are far more problems than we know of in the higher education practices within the United States. The problem starts at the elementary level and goes all the way up to college.

@Anon 777--these are the facts. You nailed it. UoP hasn't changed. It's all about preserving the status quo for the shareholders. The FTC doesn't investigate without some evidence of wrongdoing. This brand is irredeemable unless they go not for profit. If the FTC shows systemic deception towards stidents( and there was and still is), the fines and court orders to pay back student loans will be their Waterloo.

Hmmm...sounds like middle management have nothing better to do but talk about their MILESTONES while they are paid 6 figures to brainwash those around them!!! Let us take a good look at the real milestones:

1- Billions in lawsuits against UoP

2- Thousands of students in default on student loans

3- LOW paid employees and OVER paid CEO's

4- Constant layoffs but they never get rid of those that have created this mess

5- LOWEST graduation rates ever

6- No appreciation for those who keep the lights on

Lets all celebrate more milestones and continue brainwashing techniques...

The previous post nailed it. Regarding referrals, don't blame managers. This is a directive from above just to show they have authority. Associate degrees disappear September 1, so new directive should be to ask for referrals for bachelor and master degrees only. To convert, must be in your college. What are the odds? Cash in your EPIC points.

@ Thank You UOP--Wow, you overdosed on the bullshit, huh? Do you remember the days when 'teams' would 'huddle' and talk about how many calls you needed to make per day. If you had appointments, you were expected to take an app and get them in REG within a day or two. And when you did get someone in REG, they would ring a bell and jump up and down like we were on the floor of the Dow Jones. It was NEVER about education, and ALL about throwing as many students in per month and hoping enough would stick through two five week courses. When the DOE started to address issues with for-profit schools, executives used other tactics to exact numbers. They always played a shell game with the regulators. The latest FTC investigation might be the end of UOP. If UoP had really tried to change, people would have rallied around them, including me. Unfortunately, management--from top to bottom--are lying sycophants, people who are pathologically predisposed to lying, real sociopaths. UOP will fail by 2017, and it couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of assholes.
