Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Gorgon is now looking at a strike....When it rains it pours.

This all over the news here in Australia. Here it is there will be a strike....no question. They are interviewing workers and of course it sounds unbelievable but I smile and shake my head as I know it's all true. They can't drill a well in Texas because of poor OC (Organizational Capabilities) and they expected to build a gas plant in a Class A Nature Reserve. I don't care how bad it is anywhere else in Chevron this shit takes the cake. Think of the worse performance imaginable, the worse labor relations tactics imaginable, the poorest PM's imaginable and mutliply7 it by infinity as this project will be crowned the worst ever on Planet Earth. I will not wear any Chevron logo stuff here as I am freaking embarrassed. http://www.smh.com.au/business/chevrons-gorgon-lng-project-faces-fresh-strike-risk-20150719-gifmai.html

Typical union nonsense, no wonder they're universally despised and membership rates are declining. Typical union stupidity about the hand that feeds them. These crybabies have a government that makes it impossible to hire outsiders, yet they moan about the hours. No doubt soaring costs have to do with worker apathy.

At the same time the typical MCP BS where lack of planning and incomplete analysis caused massive "unforeseen" cost overruns. Everyone in management involved in Gorgon should have the project difference deducted from their salaries until retirement.

Oh yes the polish assassin tried to blame it on the worker bees and got his dick stomped in the dirt. Less than one percent is labor cost. Read this report, that the energy industry views as a independent source. The mismanagement problems are documented in a report written by Brandon Ellem, professor of labor relations at the University of Sydney Business School. The report was commissioned by MUA.

Among other things, the report says that poor communications between Chevron and its subcontractors and workers, an inefficient computer system used to plan and schedule work, logistical problems associated with the project’s remoteness, and the enormity and complexity of the project itself are the cause of the project’s delays and cost overruns.

Ellem’s report was published after Chevron reacted to the workers’ health and safety walkout by blaming union activity for the project’s slow progress. Among other things, Chevron accused the workers of being overpaid and lazy.

The company’s anti-union discourse came to a head in 2014 when Chevron filed suit against MUA for the workers’ 2012 walkout and demanded $20 million in damages.

According to the union, if Chevron wins the lawsuit and wins $20 million in damages, it would in effect bust the union.

But Professor Ellem’s report contends that Chevron’s lawsuit and anti-union media campaign is a smokescreen designed to obscure the company’s own faults.

He points out that the project’s labor costs are only 1 percent of the project’s total cost and couldn’t possibly account for the $17 billion cost overrun.

The report also shows that Chevron’s complaints about lack of productivity on the job are baseless.

“Is (blaming unions and workers) an adequate explanation (for the cost overruns and delays)?” asks Ellem in the report. “The short answer is: no. . . This report suggests these behaviors are more about blame-shifting than genuine analysis.”

I am not sure if the rest of Chevron does know that this project is never ending. 10,000 employees working a few hours a day and waiting the rest. The cost is so dam high because of poor planning or should I say no planning. So everyone just waits????? I will take a layoff if they move me back to Houston. This is out right torture and worse than water boarding, Chevron keeps blaming this on the workforce/union. It is not true is Chevron management.
