@Anonymous92905 - all this tells you is that we need Samsung, this is concerning, not a reason for joy. There are no true partners in this game, it's all dependency driven.
Snapdragon 810 crapped out, LG G4 is using Snapdragon 808. That is fact not fiction. Put that in your Hookah and smoke it.
Whatever happened to Snapdragon 810? It is built on TSMC 20nm that no one wants to use.
QCOM and Apple are dependent on their competition's foundry. Not cool for them.
Obviously OP is some new employee that has no clue on how this business works. This "partnership" is for foundry use for 14nm.... The same thing that Apple is already committing to do ,because Samsung has the current lead over TSM. This has nothing to do with the health of the app processor nor with the LTE modem, which for all purposes it's most likely Samsung will continue to use their own solution moving forward. Why else would they spend so much money on their internal LSI group to make such a thing if that wasn't eventually your plan? It's the same game plan that the Chinese are doing, except the chinese are about 1-3 years behind (since they started much later.) Huawei is doing the exact same thing right now. So is Xiaomi Their government is also supporting their initiative. Their development is first for their domestic market, and eventually the bigger goal is export to international markets. Meanwhile, intel is partnering with low cost Spreadtrum to crack into the chinese market on the low end.
If you don't know who those 3 are, you are clueless.
Its an all out war against Apple. Why not have the 2 best Android players take them on?
Samsung is the only foundry with 14nm capability AT THIS MOMENT. TSMC is not far behind.
What does that prove, either good or bad? SS currently has foundry leadership. It would be stupid NOT to use them. It is interesting that SS used to need QC (for baseband/AP). Now the tables have turned and QC needs SS.
