This story just shows you the state of our country. No one wants to take responsibility for their decisions any longer. When something doesn't work out they run to the government for assistance and blame the big, bad corporations.

Suck it up toolbox! You chased your dream, it didn't work out, and now you fuxored yourself for a long time. What idiot who is looking for stardom enrolls in a university (I use the term loosely) anyhow? How dumb are you?

It just amazes me that this is the story they chose to represent the poor, hard-working, misled students. Some idiot decides to move to L.A. to see if he can become a celebrity. Maxes out his student loans to live on and then...somehow he doesn't become a celebrity and is now expected to pay the taxpayers back. Oh, the humanity!

347: Camden Kid knows absolutely nothing about our industry or how Title IV works. He's just bored and likes inserting himself into others' conversations.

Camden Kid: It really doesn't matter if it's "different." When you default on a fed loan you can get your car repossessed, income tax refund withheld, be sued by ED, etc, etc. Not to mention that it looks TERRIBLE on your credit, so probably no good jobs will be available to you. ED can't forgive one loan, or 13, without setting a precedent that anyone can tell a sob story and expect their debt wiped out. It's opening a can of worms. EVERYONE who gets a fed education loan has to complete Entrance Counseling and agrees that they will pay back the loan/s, even if they don't finish the program or benefit from it. It is very specific.

@Anonymous70277, this is a different story. If you were sold a dream and got a nightmare...

138 may have been a bit harsh in his/her message delivery, but the message holds true. Refusing to pay your federal student loan is a sure way to have the feds run - and ruin - your life. Student loans are not dischargable in bankruptcy, and those who collect them have almost as much latitude as the IRS. The only way this ends well is if it genrates enough emotional backlash for the DoE to authorizwe a discharge of the loans - not likely given the precedent it sets for the tens of thousands of students who have a story to tell.

Cumdump Krud is at it again. Just what do you have against Zenith Education? You are either a worthless piece of flesh or you are an ex employee that is still bitter you were canned. Either way it's time you got on with your life and maybe start a movement against Obama for destroying the entire country.

Ha! Good luck with getting federal loan relief and have fun not paying it back. See what happens to your financial future with that bone head decision.

You were stupid enough to think you would be a "great star" by coming to LA. Ask the homeless around Hollywood where they came from. A brilliant decision to find stardom in LA by trekking across the country. At least you have a job!

Sorry, CK, but I agree with 70090. Maybe you should take up a more rewarding crusade.

Camden Kid: What absolute and total BS! The Department of Education had tons and tons of evidence of CCI's malfeasance, and not just in the areas that got public (especially financial aid). They were joined by many AGs, consumer groups and Members of Congress. Ed came down hard and actually cut off taxpayer funds for a short while. The result? CCi is "purchased" by ECMC, which is really just a rebranding as there have been no personnel changes. Ed agrees to look the other way and let them keep conducting business as usual. It's a scam on the American people, and not a new one. Congress serves the wealthy, and this Congress even more than most. The only trick was finding a way to switch names to confuse the public into thinking something was done. Ed blew their wad. They wanted to really shut this freak show down, but were overruled by their political masters. They won't be going after anyone else, especially not because of some noise by Occupy Wall Street. Grow up! I'm sorry, but that's the honest truth. I know you want to think that your little hobby (which I think has grown to a full-time obsession) has or will do some good. No such luck.

@Anonymous70085, Everest is just the tip of the iceberg. Corinthian Colleges should have listened to their most ethical workers, like Laurie McConnell. If things don't change, Corinthian Colleges is just the start of something much bigger. EDMC, ESI, BPI, CECO, LINC may be next in this crash. And Apollo Group, the largest publicly traded for-profit in the US is acting like a criminal enterpise.

I think it's funny that we get so many holier-than-thou instructors on here (an academic, working for Everest - seriously?) who swear that they had top-notch academic standards and were never part of the problem. But those of us at the campuses talk, and we've seen our ads. Those instructors were either lying, miracle workers, or (and I think this is probably the most accurate) just third-rate instructors passing students through without thinking about it. "Don't worry - we're giving everyone an A for the course" and "You've never came to class? Then you'd better take the final open book" are everyday statements at Everests. Glad I'm out now! By the way, CK - haven't you had enough abuse? Why you still coming here?
