100 take vsep at bpTT

About 100 employees have accepted voluntary separation packages from BP Trinidad and Tobago as the energy company continues to grapple with lower global oil prices.

In a statement yesterday, bpTT — a subsidiary of UK energy giant BP Group — confirmed that its “organisational changes have resulted in a ten per cent decrease in headcount at the company, out of a total workforce of approximately 1,000”. BPTT said: “These changes are aligned with the BP Group’s global simplification and efficiency programme announced in 2014. Details of the organisational changes were shared directly with employees and also with relevant authorities in line with all BP values.” BPTT president Norman Christie said: “Safety remains our number one priority. All these organisational changes were carefully considered to ensure the safety of our personnel and operations will not be compromised. We remain strongly committed to running safe and reliable operations in Trinidad and Tobago and will continue to invest in our people and our operations.” The organisational changes being made at bpTT affect mainly support/ office-based staff, the company said. “BPTT will continue to monitor the environment and plans to move forward with approved major projects already underway in Trinidad,” it added. BPTT operates in 904,000 acres off Trinidad’s East coast and has 13 offshore platforms and two onshore processing facilities.
