Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

NYC Director asking questions about thelayoff.com postings!

My director approached me this morning asking if I was aware of this site and told me that he has been tasked with going around to each and every person in his charge and asking if they were aware of this site and to inform them that we are not to post anything company related as it is against policy. Apparently IT is monitoring our systems as well so keep your eyes peeled for the little binocular icon at the top of your screen to see if they're monitoring your system. Apparently they are concerned about what jus being said.

He also asked about the "velvet mafia."

My boss came around asking our team about it too - not sure if anybody has accessed from their desktop, but it seems common sense NOT to.....Be careful of who you speak to about it too - there are some out there sent to inform VPs & Directors who the commenters are....These company folks are the ones who want to keep their ride crusing along...so keep the comments coming AND confidential.....

Be smart guys, do no use company computers to access this site. Use your personal phone, tablet or computer and connect to a network outside of the companies. They will take action if they find you reading this board.

Yes, please, common sense would dictate that you only access this from your home computer or non-Mattel personal device. They own and can monitor everything you do on a Mattel computer. They can read all your emails... Even ones you have permanently deleted. Keep your emails clean too. I personally never do any personal emails through Mattel. And certainly watch carefully what I put in writing. But I love everyone's candor here. I think it is safe to say that there are very few people here that like it. Except for the cushy exec jobs. And hell they probably don't love it either but they have too good a package and gig to give up.

I keep reading it on my phone, they really have no access to the information on how I use my phone. Unless you post something that may threaten safety of others it's all free speech and they cannot do anything about it.

Free speech man, soak it up. It's the only thing we've got

Left at Mattel. If the problems weren't so widespread and epidemic, it wouldn't have created a need for this community as fast and opinionated as this. I honestly would have thought the activity would have died down, but kinda proud of my colleagues for giving a shit to throw their 2 cents in and caring. The depth of insights and comments are astounding and I can't help but check in throughout the day to educate myself a little more. So, "kudos" to all for voicing your thoughts, this site should be required reading for any prospective employee looking to join this company - know what you're getting into. Hell, this should be a case study of how NOT to run a company. As we found out with Stockton - once you put the "I" into trying to run a company, you ruin said company.
