Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Told my boss I want to be laid off

He said I’m 10th on his list.

Now I regret not raising my hand sooner.

Don’t be a fool. Tell them nothing. Your “boss” is just a shill for the Man. Ok, you want to tell them something, then lie your a-s off to them just like they lie to you. If you don’t have the stomach for it then get the he-l out of there.

Only within AT&T can HR become the most profitable organization by simply showing everyone the door. Now that’s real business leadership! HR organization bonuses will be huge in March! What a disgrace.

Imagine telling everyone how great your plan and execution are while simultaneously projecting you can’t afford to lay employees off according to YOUR OWN severance policy so you decide it’s a good idea to make everyone miserable.

“I've been on a waiting list for months. first on the list. my boss told me that they have suspended layoffs for now. translation: no layoffs until they get enough people to quit because of the miserable conditions we will be forced to work in. (aka not enough desks or parking, particularly in the overcrowded hub locations they've been forcing everyone to move to)”

My director told us the same thing. They’re banking on people quitting and have no interest in laying off with severance right now.

Basically if they don’t get enough people to quit they’ll announce they’re changing the severance to get to the number they want.

This company is a complete joke.

Yup, get in line. My district level went through a layoff over the summer and lost 5. At that time, 4 out of 5 were volunteers. Fast forward to the FT RTO announcement and we've got 15+ more with their hands waving wildly in the air, asking to be put on the list. We had 3 already leave voluntarily this week due to RTO. Not even sure when our next lay off will be. Folks will have to decide if the 6 months + unemployment is worth their health and sanity because their number might not be called as soon as they'd like.

Kudos to the ones who left on their own terms, with barely 2 weeks notice. But I'm guessing they minimized the numbers needed for the next layoff.

"Suspended layoffs"? BS. Near positive there have been some layoffs/surplus activity in every month of 2024 and likely will be same in 2025.

Only the high performers get laid off.

No need to worry. Cuts will be going deep in 2025.
