Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I wonder how many people would leave if the Medicare Bridge for early retirees was still in place?

I think there would be a lot of people willing to leave without the severance if that benefit were still around!

You made a choice. Stop complaining now.

"The writing was on the wall when the decision to remove this benefit was made."

True. But some folks of a certain ager were too young to completely quit, yet probably too old to get a comparable position somewhere else.

If the benefit still existed, many more might have been willing to leave in the following years on their own accord. I still think it was very short sighted if the goal was to drive the average age lower.

Stankey is a criminal. His actions of taking away employee benefits and creation of RTO policy are proof that he deserves to be punished. Hope that karma will hit him one day. May New Year bring him what he deserves the most.

Most regret not leaving the year it got cut.

All I can say is they are going to make it worse and worse. You all better take the pension while you can. Chances are, they will eliminate it next year if you don’t take it soon there won’t be a pension. Just a guess.

Medical costs are just too high. I wish they still had that pre Medicare benefit for retirees…anyway after mortgage my highest cost is medical insurance and for that I can’t retire

Retired in 2021 and the medical for me/family for 8 years was worth around $170k. What I would have lost in the drop in lump sum pension turned out to be around $300k since the interest rate rising. So for me it was going to be a $470k hit if i didn't retire. I would have been working for free for 3 or 4 years. Retiring was a no-brainer. I may have stayed if they didn't yank the medical but after what they are doing with this return to office BS I'm glad I left. Good luck to the Survivors!

Many. Though it would certainly be easier to calculate than other retirement benefits with no finite end. If it were offered to those aged (pick a number) and up--be generous and include spouses (at time of retirement, not any new spouses), then the longest it would need to be paid would be known ahead of time. Put a clause in there that there'd be no co-benefits if an employee got another job providing benefits. Heck, make it like a contest: T would provide up to 1000 'years' of bridge; a 60YO would -5, a 57YO and 57 YO spouse would -16, etc. until the number is depleted, "while supplies last..."

However, as mentioned before, it would likely be only for one, maybe two years, and then they'd renege on the whole thing. It's the long-game sc--w over they've done again and again. "Sorry, statute of limitations has run out...."

they'd just do the same thing they did the first time. Get people to take things like the post retirement supplement and then change the rules after the fact. Can't be trusted. They only thing people will now believe is $ in the form of severance.

He is still going to have to give people severance.

Most didn’t before. This was a carrot that finally convinced a number of lifers to leave.

Most likely.

Instead, Stink would prefer to make everyone suffer in misery and leave for free.
