Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

CIO All-Hands

Finally something done right. Clearly less HR and comms teams needed in these forums. Seemed to just speak his mind, answered the tough questions, and is old school Nike authentic despite being here like 3 months.

Can we make the CIO run GT?

I’ll take an engineer bring akward on stage any day. Why? Because that means they are likely more an engineer than they are a puppet. They are there to solve problems not give a speech.

I think it was just fine. Be glad we have an experienced senior engineer running engineering. It is what we asked for so not something we should sit and complain about. Especially 3mo or whatever long he has been here.

The guy said he will be here working every day for holiday. Visible with the teams. That’s what we need not an MIA leader just getting reports.

No engineers want to sit through a bunch of strategy talk. Let’s be real here. We want to know we are working for an actual engineering leader who understands what we do and can help. Leave the strategy stuff to the business teams. I was good with it. Got to see the guy stand up there and be him.

Now the turnout was disappointing. I went in person. Heard late in the day a lot of people had family and personal conflicts so their teams could not go. Curious if they share the zoom numbers. Just need to host these things earlier.

It was embarrassing that hardly anyone showed up in the auditorium for the meeting. The CIO seemed awkward on stage and did not say anything substantive. Where's the strategy? What is his vision for his large tech org? Another tech leader who will probably be gone in a year or two.

@1clo definitely agree would probably exclude AS and ME out of that batch. Interacted before with both but also only really heard positive things about them from others.

Good call to ensure not everyone is guilty by association.

@iclo AS is awesome & definitely should not be lumped in with everyone. I loved working for/with him.

Are his admin and VM people bad too? People saying EVERYONE but I assume just mean engineering leaders.

I think AS (CIS one) is good so wouldn’t bundle him in with others.

Every single direct report to CIO should be replaced. In some groups, SD should be replaced as well
