Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Office Hours, Sapience and PTO are the factors

It might be different for each team and department but for my team, the factors were, not logging in the required 6-8 hrs in the office, Sapience data showing very low numbers, and high number of PTO days (even though they have unlimited PTO)

They want us in the office for collaboration, but when we are collaborating it doesn’t count as work time. Such a bs application. Being salaried means working weekends, oncall and overtime when needed, and less when it’s a freeze. They get more than 40 hours a week from nearly everyone if you average the year out. We are all adults here.

Sapience is "productivity analytic software" - it's basically measuring how much time you're spending doing "productive things" vs "unproductive things". Screen locked because you're collaborating with someone you share an office with? Unproductive time! Go to the bathroom? Unproductive time. I was told by my management that an individual contributor not averaging 9 hours a day Monday through Thursday will not be meeting expectations in an upcoming review cycle.

I honestly wonder how much time Frank spends in office vs remotely. I also wonder if he's heard of Goodhart's Law, but I suspect HR'll be finding out what it is during a lot of exit interviews in the upcoming year, because Frank is deciding to prioritize activity and presence vs effectiveness.

I was let go despite being in the office for 8.5 hours a day, having 7+ hours in Sapience a day, and being within my unlimited PTO limit, yet I was let go. I'm sure my manager was asked to make some cuts and chose me.

And, in general, probably a fair amount of random crtieria applied having nothing to do with performance. Pay level, for example, or recent trending in a given project (expenses too high or revenue too low), or just a top-down dictate to cut x percent of staff. The list of non-perfomance criteria that can be leveraged is endless.

Good luck to all those directly impacted.

Sapiens is not even an accurate depiction of someone's day. And all of us know in client roles that our jobs are not production. Our job is to be there for the client. Some days are slower than others. And my team just now got saved pants on our laptops.
