Big Marketing Egos Put In Their Place

There are a few folks still in the Marketing org who were continually pumped up and touted as “Superstars” during the prior CMO tenure. This went on for a couple of years and the egos (and the heads) swelled to unbelievable size.

With the PE layoff earlier this year the involved egos were quickly deflated and the folks involved came back down to earth, realizing that since their CMO cheerleader was no longer around, their direct reports stripped and laid off, that they had to either su-k it up or leave.

it’s been nice to see these few folks humbled and actually having to grind out work rather than constantly receiving glorious praise and adulation.

No I’m not talking about any of the current CMO’s direct reports.

I can only think they are still around because either they can’t find a job elsewhere, or they are getting paid far above what they can make elsewhere.

Both, with the added bonus of "please stay; opportunities for growth and title changes are on the horizon."

I didn’t think it would be, honestly. These folks were pretty obvious.

Yes, it's not hard to figure out whom you're talking about.

Referencing certain manager, senior manager level people who were made into seeming “rock stars” for literally just doing their jobs.

Ya. It must be nice to be an attractive Caucasian female—promotions seem to come effortlessly.

I’m the OP.

I was referencing certain manager, senior manager level people who were made into seeming “rock stars” for literally just doing their jobs.

Now they are just ordinary folks again.

I interpreted this to be lower level people in the old marketing org (perhaps senior managers and prematurely promoted directors

No more cringeworthy music and video montages during marketing all-hands—a big win.

Some of those folks should have applied at Buzzfeed.

Are you talking about people winning marketing awards or novelty business titles?

I interpreted this to be lower level people in the old marketing org (perhaps senior managers and prematurely promoted directors).

But my reading of the juju leaves could be off here ….

OP — ? Please clarify.

Alright, so a handful of directors, senior managers, and other marketing managers needed to be humbled? It’s unclear what “superstars” refers to. Are you talking about people winning marketing awards or novelty business titles?
