Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

This whole idea of job uncertainty is actually ki-ling me

Finding another job takes a lot of time and effort. The majority of us have neither free time nor energy leftovers to deal with it all the time. If any of us can become jobless in the near future, that means that we all have to be on the lookout for another job daily. Losing a job any day in this economy means for most of us that we can be out on the street in a month or two unless we find something else. Which, again, is not all that easy. I’m saying all this from the position of an average worker. I’m tired of this cr-p. You can work your a-s off, and still end up with nothing.

I will say that interviewing is very stressful. Several rounds, testing or on the spot presentations if you’re in technology position, etc. Some companies make you go through 3-5 rounds of interviews.

Pay and benefits are better, though. Much better culture too. T culture is utter garbage.

Long time ago, at my first job (large power plant construction job), we all knew the job would get done and we'd be laid off eventually. Could come any day. The mantra we had was "I was looking for a job when I came here". thats the mindset to have here also, actually anywhere

“Don't be so pessimistic. If you worked at T for a while, you should get a decent severance. If you manage it smartly, it can last you at least a year…”

Great post. You have told it like it is. The biggest fear is fear itself.
Sip from your severance, collect unemployment, make deep cuts in the budget and stock up on medication. Use half the time job hunting and half the time leveling up with certifications.

AT&T is full of bozo the clowns on steroids. Chances are if the OP is worried about his job, and the job is su-king the life out of him, trust me, you will be relieved if you get laid off and will do great out there.

Don't be so pessimistic. If you worked at T for a while, you should get a decent severance. If you manage it smartly, it can last you at least a year. You can also take advantage of your state's unemployment program, as AT&T doesn't fight it. Sure, it might hurt your pride a little, I know how it feels, but it helps. Side gigs too. Do a little DoorDash if you have to. Another options, is to borrow from your 401K. Mortgage payments can be paused for a bit. Basically, my point is, most of us should be able to go for a couple of years if we have to find another, an even better, job. Believe in yourself, and treat your job search as a job, where you are your own boss, and be a tough boss. It'll be okay.
