SAP to ‘Over Proportionally’ Hire in India, CEO Says

According to this Reuters news it's clear:

"During a visit to Bengaluru, SAP CEO Christian Klein said the company will hire “over proportionally” in India, which will soon house its biggest workforce. SAP Labs India currently has 15,000 employees, the most number of engineers for the company worldwide and the second-highest overall headcount. “We will over proportionally hire here [India] versus all the other labs,” Klein said. Klein also said that a majority of future investments into research and development (R&D) and customer success will go to India."

You surprised? My first employer out of school adopted this model. They are a shell of their former selves and were broken-up over a decade. Offshoring looks good for the bottom line, but it is usually challenging when measuring innovation and maintaining the company culture which built the previous success.

Reminds me, I’ll need to sell some SAP stock soon if this is what is happening.

A new Bengaluru campus has recently opened which can accommodate 15000 more employees so in total around 30K employees could work from Bengaluru campus. There are SAP offices in other Indian cities as well but not as big as this one.

By the end of December the VERP employees in Germany and EU who have taken an early retirement package will leave SAP. Just for the numbers, original estimates were 8K but additional 4K have signed up for VERP.

I would not be surprised if the majority of replacement roles open up in India offices instead of Germany, EU or US. I have been trying to find another opening internally for a couple of months but no relevant openings are available.

Yes it is across all LOBs. India is too cheap. Why would they hire in NA or EU when they can get someone for 20% of the cost in India.

Does it apply across lobs ? Not all lobs have teams in India and some teams (at thel3 leadership level ) don’t want to have to manage teams in India .
