Thread regarding SAP layoffs

For the next round of layoffs, what the Board isn't telling us.

What the Supervisory Board isn't telling us, is that the "next" round of Layoffs will be jettisoned by way of AI.  We know how much SAP has invested in AI and that it sees this area even larger than the Cloud Biz, which is exactly why they want to get in on the ground floor of this ( unlike the Cloud arena) and become a go to source for AI support.

AI is already replacing positions like Data Entry, self service kiosks, content generation, etc.      Companies like Google, MSN, Dukaan, etc   have already replaced workers in certain areas with AI - which SAP is well aware about and is quietly moving full speed to gain entry into this arena ASAP.

Jobs that  involve work activities like “getting information, processing information, analyzing data and information, thinking creatively, evaluating information to determine compliance with standards, making decisions or solving problems, are all prime to be replaced by AI.    This would be paralegals,  research analytics, telemarketing, financial analysis, accounting, translation, customer support, etc...   In some of these cases AI will not immediately be able to perform the full e2e scope and will require some amount of human involvement - But in time this will also dissipate. 

Harvard and Goldman Sachs have estimated that by 2030,  300 million jobs will be replaced by AI.  Forbes  also says that according to an MIT and Boston University report, AI will replace as many as two million workers by 2025.

This will happen so fast, it will surprise all of us and  there will be little time to react to it.   For those naysayers, just think about what Chat GPT is capable of doing AND how fast it has exploded.  Who would have thought just one year ago  all the possibilities of which Chat GPT can do - It's  amazing.   

This  type of monumental change is coming our way and will be here before we know it.  Yes, our Board is well aware of the possibilities that AI will bring and we will be front and center and be used to serve as "role models" to potential customers as to just  how impactful AI can be put to use in their own business.

The current generation of AI will replace nothing. They have no ability to reason or do anything other than regurgitate back statistically relevant phrases. There not going to be replacing anyone as they are predictably unpredictable. Maybe some new pattern will get created but its a long way off. All the current AI hype is driven by bossterism by people heavily invested. This is the same as crypto, lots of hype that turns into nothing.

SAP may not survive in long run by shifting all jobs to SAP India or china or other Asian countries and run the business with out doing any fair share of employment in US . This will cause ripple effect to SAP and all other companies.
Macro factors in labor market makes governments to push more protection of their economy . We can not push all jobs to Asian countries and ask people to live on government benefits with continuous layoffs. This is more of frugal management attitude to get more bonuses and ignore employees are not part of share holders. One contractor who left telecom company in USA costs 400 mil penalties. Do we need this with reckless management philosphy

In 10 years, we won't recognize SAP, if it is still around. Technology is changing and moving very fast and with this, so are the jobs that go along with these changes.

My guess is that the Technology sector will be consolidated to perhaps 3 or 4 mega companies will control the entire industry via M&A and closures. Exactly what has happened in Retail ( where Walmart now dominates) Home Improvement (Home Depot, Lowes), Banking and Financial Services, etc..... will happen to tech companies.

SAP will either be the consolidator or the consolidatee, and I believe we are not a big enough player to compete with Google, Microsoft, Apple. etc .... and hence we will cease to exist as we know it today.

Is Elon's neuralink needed for us to be the employee leveraging the AI in the future to stay competitive? How would we compete with other employees taking the Neuralink to become super humans with AI embedded in their brain?

Survey performed by Duke University and Federal Reserve Bank of CFO's , says that more than half (61%) of large US firms plan to use AI within the next year to automate tasks previously done by employees, Those tasks include everything from paying suppliers and doing invoices to financial reporting, They say that you cannot be an innovative company without considering these technologies.

Expectations are that in the near term (1-2 Years) AI will not replace that many jobs, but in time it will become a "co-pilot" to how we work and will reduce the need for human involvement. Companies say they see AI increasing output , reducing labor costs and being a substitution for workers .

The whole ideas is to be the human who is using AI, to learn it, to do it, to make it happen vs the ones who are getting replaced by it. We need to revamp our skills and trainings to be prepared for what is to come.

Customers and partners will still be failing miserably at “commodity skills” like program management and program management and screaming or escalating for SAP to provide free PM consulting, free cutover management, and free hypercare management. This sordid tale was written 20 years ago & wont change.

Just look at what Chat GPT has been able to do in just a year or so and then multiply this one hundred fold to see what the capability of AI will be, also in such a short time.

In 5 years we won't recognize SAP. Our ERP and Maintenance business will be on life support, Cloud Biz will be so overly competitive it won't be worth the hustle ( especially for those who have only minor share of the market like SAP).

Leaves the AI world for SAP to attempt to exploit. Given how SAP business will evolve and given the AI direction it wants to in, the end result will be a company that has many fewer jobs than it does today.

We will be on a steady diet of layoffs from here on out.

What I see is that the traditional skills that have been used in business will have to change at the individual level in order to be successful.

We have to prepare for the change to come in the next 5, 10, 15 years when the "good" jobs will look nothing like we are used to and require different set of skill and training.

All of us need to prepare and plan for the future requirements and gain the needed education and experience to give ourselves the best opportunity for what is ahead - whether it is at SAP or some other place.

Agreed, AI will add some jobs ( such as in machine learning, data analysts and scientists, digital transformation ). But it will also replace jobs. It will do this by automation and augmentation.

We live in an ever increasing world now driven by technology. Decades ago manual labor it was replaced by machinery. It would be foolish to think that they way we have worked for the last 30 years +/-, will always remain the same and nothing will ever change. Change is a part of life and the technology we use today moves at ever increasing speed.
