30% headcount reduction?

I keep seeing 30% headcount states here. Anyone know the source? That seems….wildly implausible. Nothing works now. That kinda of cut and it would all just grind to a stop…

Goodbye CTC. I’m sure those PhDs, profound sense of entitlement and knowledge of Chevron processes will be marketable out there

I heard 30% cuts in one group were being presented as 10% cuts in the town hall. There are games being played with the numbers…in-scope positions vs. out of scope positions, USA jobs vs. what is being sent offshore. We are not being leveled with at all right now. Upper LT knows that announcing a 30% cut is a sure-fire way to grind things to a halt. Would place a healthy wager that 30% is going to be the number in the USA…given the lack of forthright communication on this entire project.

Who are the 3 other orgs?

The 30% reduction in MFG, ABU, and three other major orgs has already been announced. Ask anyone in refining. No secret anymore.

Now they will try and soften the blow and say it will be done through “natural attrition” from typical PDC moves and people leaving.

But now consider there are hardly any jobs available in the PDC and the ones that are have been earmarked for so-called “hi-pots” and really aren’t available.

30% has to come from somewhere and no one’s really moving around, and now we have an impending reorg.

Not looking great.

A wonder what the flavor of the month new process will come out of this shakeup.

“Rocky road” sounds like a good name.

@aqw,
That was likely the most articulate and insightful post on this board ever. Well done!

With respect to the “needs to be done” work comment: I fully agree, the vast amount of work at Chevron is performative process. That said, it’s all Chevron leaders know. Leadership simultaneously tell us to be more efficient while leaning on these processes. Most mid level managers to lower level execs are where they are at due to the mastery of these processes. They are so intertwined to company culture, they cannot be removed. That would require developing expertise and long tenures in roles, which run counter to everything about that drives upper level management careers. Every fundamental aspect of how we do business would have to change, but would require every leader to do something different than what got them to their place.

Instead, we’re caught in a corporate neurosis, where leaders are demanding outcomes that require fundamental changes, while doubling down on the problems that are inhibiting success. They will make every change possible, except for the ones that would make the difference. They will reinforce a structure that benefits them, while deteriorating every aspect of the business.

I doubt there will be massive headcount reductions all at once. I expect more of a slow burn as Engine ramps up. Likely through the PDC by tagging folks as must moves.

Fake news, it will be quite less.

I think “leadership” expects headcount to stay roughly flat but with a 30% reduction in US workforce and associated increase in LCG workforce. Disgusting. Folks should be ashamed of themselves.

The reality is that it wouldn't. It's harsh, but that's the way it is.

There is work that NEEDS to be done, then there is work that just happens to be done. My time at Chevron as someone that came in via an acquisition has shown me that this org has a wild amount of people most doing work in the "happens to be done" category.

A large haircut would quickly identify the "needs to be done" work.
