Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

What if your spouse did the same?

What would your commitment level, if your spouse announced to you ever six months, that they were thinking of divorce?

Would you stay in that relationship?

If you committed to put as much of your effort as possible into the relationship, could you be happy with the quality of your life?

No, Cisco is not your spouse; but you potentially could spend more time with Cisco than your spouse.

Sad where this is going.

I used to love life at Cisco. Too bad.

I still love my wife; lucky.

She paraphrased the above to me years ago, when I was living with worry for years, over and over, on getting LR'd. I eventually was.

My spouse did that to me, I did 90% of everything and they would threaten to leave periodically and it wore me out. I stayed longer than I should have for the kids, but eventually left. The same could be said about Cisco, even the people that work hard and enjoy working there are worried at each layoff cycle. You could tell when the layoff cycle was coming up, people were less helpful and stressed and spent more effort showcasing their work or doing things that were not the best thing to do for the business at that time, but they thought it would help them through the layoff. It wears people down, the constant up and down of working there, the constant fear that you will lose your income and then when you make it thru, the mixed emotions of joy/relief and sadness for those laid off and then the "lets get back to work" and make things happen. It was a bit like Squid Games, you knew it was coming and was worried about making it through or not. With marriage, business, and friends, there are great partners out there and not so great partners. Don't pick a business with cyclic layoffs. And for the haters, really? do you need to hate on people that are expressing their opinion and got laid off? Maybe redirect that towards UHC comment sections all over the internet - read their comments, there is so many very sad, unbelievable stories.

CCIE is worth Jack sh-t these days. I don’t even bother quoting my number anymore. It’s embarrassing - it basically confirms “ you’re an expert in all that legacy sh-t?” to a potential employer.

I will only move on when enough of this next generation is sufficiently irritated to the point that they themselves move on, and actually strive to make something of their lives, beyond Xbox and TikTok.

Your Mom and Dad called, and said it's still not too late to wake up and actually do something meaningful.

@1ifh+1vPfQ7Aa, because employee numbers, and probably user account names, are never reused, Cisco has had to start using 7-digit employee numbers instead of 6!

They’re on-boarding people almost as fast as they can pay them off the way they go thru employee numbers.

tl;dr: you simped for Cisco and ignored the red flags until you were dumped for a hotter model.

I never bothered to keep track of the body count, but if Cisco dumped 4,000 a year for 24 years (they started with 13,000 in 2001 alone) they've laid off more people than ever worked there at one time. Figure it out already.

100% agree, it is hard to live on this rollercoaster ride with Cisco. Can impact decisions you make because you are not comfortable.
