I was one of the people that was with 3M for23+ years (HIS). Some years ago, I took advantage of an early retirement package and ran, even though I wasn't going to actually retire for another 5 years. I loved it for about 18 years, then things went toxic beyond belief. I watched as SCRUM was we-ponized to systematically remove people who didn't fit into the "inner circle" crowd. I watched over the months and years, people who couldn't stand the horrible treatment and left. It slowly got worse and worse, then I became the focus of the next person the Inner-circle decided to vilify. I documented horrible conversations, emails, etc as I thought in the future I would need them. Then came the early retirement offer to the 3,000 or so employee's, and I immediately took it. What a bullet I dodged.
Horrible middle-management, who I accidentally found out got paid 2-3 times what I was paid. Like I say, I loved what I did. I was even part of a team that got the "golden step award." I had complained to HR months before I left, about some of the horrible things going on. My complaints were unheeded and ignored. When I left, I didn't even get a 5 minute exit interview with HR because they were "overloaded" with people who also left. I was told I could have an exit interview with my immediate Manager, who was relatively new. He was someone that I had listed in my complaint to HR, so obviously I didn't do that. Last time I looked, some of those horrible toxic people are still there.
So, to the people who have left, or were let go, consider it a gift. I would never recommend anyone to be employed by 3M or Solventum. I have never been happier, or more at peace since I retired early and left.

I was essentially forced to retire earlier this year. I had worked at 3M then Solventum for 25+ years. I was wondering when the layoffs would start. I have the feeling this not the end. Good Luck!

Well, where I’m at, they offered the AE an alternative position and not the CS. Even though the CS had better qualifications and more experience.

After 26 years and 2.5 years away from retirement I was let go by a person with a long long history with the new inner circle. I got 15 minuetes for 26 years. Litterly most of my working life doing something I loved and was good at. Not one person in excutive leadership ever asked what I did. But I managed Hundreds of Millions of dollars for them.

Yes it is required by law to issue a 60 day Warn notice for this size of layoff. It is illegal for them not to give 60 days notice if over 50 people affected. They need to pay you for 60 days prior to your severance pay kicking in. Also, likely that would put those layed off into next year, which would also in all likelihood make you also eligible for the yearly bonus having worked a day in that year.

The real CEO has shown his face.

Granted, there were signs. Rampantly hiring friends and family (and said friends and family hiring even more friends and family), doing nothing while the friends and family do terrible jobs (IT, HR, more). A reorg that was announced months ago alleging limited headcount impact, only to have a gutting and STILL the org isn’t clear at the levels that matter.

This guy bailed from his last job when the shareholders voted that he’s overpaid. He’s hired G650 pilots yet there’s travel freezes for even the most basic tasks.

He’s worse than Roman and Gibbons (who needs a firewall??). Not surprising since Roman hired him.

Oh, and he should button his shirt.

I was laid off in HIS after being hired only several months prior. I definitely have plenty of examples of soft impact but didn’t have time for real tangible results. Leaning on my network to fill that gap and hoping I can bounce back without too much exclusion by automated hr application software due to the short tenure. I agree with many on here. I took a gamble with Solventum thinking they were seeking change agents but my story is a sign of the contrary. Mismanagement is clear and it’s plenty obvious there is a high chance of it happening again. I wish everyone impacted good luck and stay positive. Use this time to reconnect, spruce up your credentials, take up a hobby, etc. You will land somewhere better. It’s Solventum’s loss.

For those of that voluntarily came over from 3M in hopes of a brighter future, I would say this cuts a bit deeper. The post referencing Bryan boy is spot on, that used car salesman sure turned on the charm and promised a better company that would not repeat the same failures of 3M. Fast forward just 8 months and it may as well be Mike Roman running the company. The same level of incompetence from both of them, it just so happened that Bryan was a much more energetic and engaging liar.

I am a former manager, I have been gone from 3M HIS/Solventum for around two years

I promise that you will all be better off in the long run, this organization is very unhealthy and demands that people do the work of multiple team members. Other organizations don’t function this way, they invest, they develop, they innovate. This company costs to keep themselves afloat, that often means people.

I can tell you that often times here laughs happen in waveswas in waves, I can also tell you that often times, managers are not even aware of these conversations. HR puts the meetings on the books, someone a bit more senior is aware and then they happen, and a manager is notified immediately following. It is the most inhumane, disgusting thing I’ve seen in my professional career. You go from giving your life, giving up time with your kids, working late nights, early mornings, weekends, to being just a number who gets a 10 minute conversation that they are no longer employed there and have no need to login anymore.

I have also seen a mix of weeding out people they think our little performers, to eliminating positions. I’ve seen people who are a red hot disaster get spared, I’ve seen people who are some of the strongest, most talented technical resources who have miles of historical knowledge just gone.

Protect yourself, your family and protect your life. This company is not loyal, and they make you so exhausted from giving 200%, that you don’t even have time to realize you are being taken advantage of.

Medical Education, Med Partnerships, Meeting Planning all gone in EMEA. some go back to KCI days. So much experience lost. Where is the sense in that.

The call with the new CMO-shocking! Told in meeting invite to submit any questions ahead of the call. The CMO didn't even acknowledge there was a Q&A let alone answer any of the many I'm sure we're submittted. People are so angry and disappointed in what we had hoped would be a new start away from 3M.

Prediction. Brian Hanson will work to get Solventum under the Medtronic umbrella. During Hanson's reign at Covidien prior to Medtronic purchase Covidien had FDA Data integrity issues. Not sure if Hanson knew about it.

Before the 1980's layoffs weren't a thing. Loyalty was a thing that went both ways. They started out as a straegy of last resort to save a company that wasn't turning a profit. Today - Solventum (among so many others) made a profit of "only" $285M - and that WASN'T ENOUGH. Now companies come up with insane 'projections' of what they 'think' the company can make and sell these 'targets' to the shareholders. When we fall short of these pie in the sky numbers, then it's lay off time to boost the numbers - again, for shareholders. Clearly, these investors don't care about the longevity of the company, only about mining it for every dollar they can make on it. You cannot keep taking away knowledge, skills, and people while expecting the reduced 'team' to make you even more money with less. It's not logical and has been proven to not work long term. Somehow, I've made it through over 6 layoffs in the almost decade I've worked for this company, yet people who were far more necessary to the operations and success of the business and products have been let go. The only strategy here is to boost financials at the end of the year to make Shareholders happy. That's definitely not the "people first Solventum Way" they keep trying to sell us. When a net profit of $285M isn't enough, it's not about employees or clients - it's about greedy shareholders.

It’s unfortunate how everything seems to boil down to revenue and shareholder demands, leaving little room for the “people-first” values the company claims to champion. I experienced the last round of layoffs before the spinoff, and that alone was unsettling. We were told it was necessary to streamline the company and prepare for the transition. Then came the spinoff, accompanied by grand promises and celebrations, but the reality has been far from inspiring.

I could be wrong but it feels like Bryan's hands were tied. The changes he may have envisioned were likely stifled by holdovers from the Mike Roman era, especially those in leadership positions under him. Instead of charting a new course, the company removed key people, leaving teams overburdened and struggling to bridge the skill gaps left behind. Just today, a married couple was let go—two employees out of many whose expertise and roles won’t be easily replaced. It’s disheartening, especially happening so close to the holidays.

This thinning of resources not only affects us but will ultimately impact our clients, who will experience reduced support and service. The brand’s reputation is at stake, and "Solventum" risks becoming synonymous with failure rather than progress. The branding itself, despite the time and money spent on it, has drawn ridicule from clients—it feels poorly conceived, like something a middle schooler might come up with.

If only Bryan had been more decisive in addressing the lingering influence of past leadership and truly connected with the people on the ground—employees and clients alike. He might have seen through the empty reassurances of certain executives. Redirecting resources to meaningful, impactful changes rather than superficial fanfare could have set a stronger foundation for success.

There’s a way forward, but it requires courageous leadership willing to make bold, people-focused decisions. The company’s current trajectory, however, makes it hard to remain optimistic. If you're still holding in there, start thinking of a plan b out of there.

The manner in which this layoff was conducted, particularly immediately prior to the holidays, appeared rather cold and unprofessional. Furthermore, it rendered my recollection of a conversation and photograph with the CEO during the inaugural Founder's Ceremony somewhat disingenuous and uncomfortable.

The announcement was made during a brief 15-minute group call, led by a Vice President who merely recited a script regarding certain company changes. She did not even address the significant news—that we were being laid off—until midway through the call.

Subsequently, we received an email from Human Resources referencing a prior conversation with them, despite the absence of any HR representatives in the layoff meeting. Additionally, the email categorically outlined our department by job title, grade, and age into ‘impacted’ and ‘not impacted’ groups. While names were not provided, it was relatively easy to ascertain identities based on the distinctive job titles. This raises significant concerns regarding the violation of the data privacy training we have undergone.

I was part of the layoff and I would be worried if you are a "spared" employee. It's only a matter of time. This was just the first wave of several and they are beginning to sell off products. I don't believe this company was ever meant to survive - it was just a way for 3M to stop their hemorrhaging from their numerous lawsuits. "Solvers" were doomed from the start.
