Hybrid exceptions

Has anyone successfully been hired into a new "hybrid" role in the last year or so, but you live >50 miles from a PP? Curious how were go about getting an exception?

I am still virtual as I don't live anywhere near a PP. Am I stuck in my role forever because of geography?

If I apply for a new hybrid role, how can I get an exception to remain virtual?

No conjecture please. I'm looking for gold who have (or haven't) been successful, and what the process looked like.

I’m 53 miles from nearest after after my home office closed during Covid and I have been told by a few hiring managers I’m stuck

I've noticed my 'pulsepoint' does not appear in any job descriptions as an 'other location' --does that mean I'm out for any transfer as well. Just curious if anyone has heard this....

I had an exception at Anthem and was offered a job in Carelon. When I told them after the job offer that I had an exception they rescinded the offer. I then applied to another job in Carelon and again received an offer. I didnt mention my exception at all. Months have gone by and no one has said anything about RTO even though I know my teammates go in 1x a week. I am hoping that I can continue to fly under the radar.

I got stuck like this too. Over 50 miles from a PP so I couldn’t apply for anything. Was RIFfed and there weren’t any jobs I could apply for because I wasn’t close to a PP. Manager was like “oh sorry, I thought you were grandfathered in as remote.” But this only applies to your CURRENT job.

The main way around it is if someone high enough up wants to hire you and can get an exception from the EVP. I had two people at Staff VP level who wanted to hire me until they found out where I lived.

(For anyone wondering, I had two job offers within a month of my last day so the RIF ended up being a very good thing. Ended up getting hired by an ex-Anthem employee at another company… and am already planning on hiring away a few current Elevance employees)

I don’t live near a pulse location and when I inquired about wanting to transfer to a new position that required me to live near a pulse location, I was told that there are hoops I will have to go through just to get an okay. ( special sign of from a director etc..) I feel like it’s very unfair.

So if the exception is at the position number, when an exception is made for that position, is the entire position number open for virtual for everyone in the company?

I wrote this and should have added, I am a hiring manager and just went through this for a position I'm hiring for. That's how I know.

"The hiring manager for the position you want has to get an exception approved at the executive VP level. The approvals aren't attached to the individuals, but to the position numbers."
