I’d like to thank VZ for the $185K payout back in September. Quickly bounced to a new career that I am loving and haven’t touched a penny of the payout. If you gotta go, that’s the way to do it!

Excellent. Years ago VZW made people move that were in HQ if they wanted to stay with the company. They had to be within x miles of a certain call center. People I know relocated and got paid $$$$ to only take the VSP a few years later. Some walked away with $150-250k on top of the relo they made. I often remind friends working for the company that the hard work they are doing is help paying for VSP, relo, executive bonuses, etc.
If offered again in 5-7 years I will be ready to tap out. This company has been good to me during my years working here but I will take it if offered again.
Agreed. We are very, very fortunate to get the VSP! I do not have to use my 401k or touch my pension for at least a year and we have paid medical. Good luck on your new journey.
For $185k, you either had a high salary or had 20+ years with a good salary. Happy to hear it worked out for you. Would have really been a tough decision for me in that situation.
