Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Organizing a better workplace - chat.unionizefiserv.org

I'm starting a new unionization campaign. I'm still working on getting the website setup, it isn't quite ready yet, however I have set up a chat server (very similar to slack) to start organizing. I'd recommend against using your real name for now, and highly recommend against using your fiserv email. The chat and affiliated campaign resources have a strict no politics rule. This is an apolitical campaign, our only goal is to achieve the demands listed below. https://chat.unionizefiserv.org

Here's the plan. No union fees. 5 simple demands.

  • Industry Standard Pay
  • No more sapience
  • No more random firing without manager input (seriously who fires top performers on a dice roll leaving the rest of us to pick up slack?)
  • 3 Months Severance for all employees
  • 6 Months Notice

6 months of a real improvement plan or real 6 month layoff notice. If you get fired or laid off you should not be blindsided, and you should have a real opportunity to turn things around.

I'd also like to look into getting people who were affected by the layoffs involved, to see if there is a legal case to be made about WARN act violations etc. If we have enough people who were affected, I can definitely look at consulting a lawyer out of my own pocket.

If you have any other ideas for demands or conditions to improve your specific working conditions or any questions in general, please reach out to support@unionizefiserv.org

Ironicly, for the last 4 years, the best thing you could do is be loud, open, and vocal about being involved starting a union. It'd be super easy for a semi-compitent attorney to prove retaliation and either get you a settlement, or your job back.

Now with the lawsuits against the NLRB, the bias in SCOTUS, and the incoming administration's vocal dislike of the NLRB and unions (not political, just facts), you'll need to be more careful.

That being said, I'm not sure about the "no dues" part of the OPs position. Dues are usually collected for the care and maintenance of the union. I.e. to make sure votes are held, officers are picked and perform their duties, etc.

I hope you don't think we'll form a union, win, make our demands, win, then go silent. FB, or his replacement will be all over that like stink on 💩.

More and more people in the industry are saying that tech unions are way past due. The benefits we used to get by keeping our mouth shut and just doing the work are quickly disappearing, and will not be coming back. H1Bs are threatened with deportation and on-shore are threatened with H1B or offshore replacements all to keep everyone in line.

To those that keep saying it's a lost cause and to just move on... sure, until the next company pulls this BS. Then you move on and the next does, and the next, until "good jobs" are basically impossible to find. If the ghost jobs, 15 interview hiring processes, and offers recinded the day before you start don't tell you we're already facing that problem, then please open your eyes. The industry has changed, and we need to change too. The old days are not coming back.

I've been supporting unionization here for months, and have seen it becoming more and more of a necessity over the last several years of my career before landing here. Seriously, let's make this happen!

Let's have some brainstorming here. Some of us don't want to jump ship just yet.

This proposed site can be secure if it's an onion site. That solves one problem. Anonymity partially solves the honeypot issue. I would be willing to set up something like this if we can come up with a good plan.

I don't know enough about Warn acts but I feel one should've been provided for the Oregon layoffs. We were one of the first given the forced relocation notice and many left before their end date so it probably doesn't apply as they left on their own.

As far as a union, Oregon voters just passed a law allowing ca--abis shops to unionize. Ca--abis shops employees are more protected then Fintech a this point. If they can do it Fiserv can do it!

I worked with Legal and that website with Fiserv in the domain will be asked to be taken down. Won’t take long for them to find who registered that domain.

Honestly, the effort to pursue unionization in this industry is a fools errand, they will outsmart or outsource faster than you can sign up.... If you want to take control of your destiny, punch up that resume and get off the sinking ship. That effort will be rewarded much faster than any union attempts. The cancer has taken hold, literally, and sad to say I think the patient is terminal. It's valiant to want to fight for the company and the people, but turn the efforts to finding better pastures beyond Frankenland. Clients are doing the same...looking around for real companies and platforms that will partner and are in it for the long haul, not the Wall Street fix.

Can you add:

"Going outside to eat something during your lunch break"

as an ask for this union?

Yes! There’s already a pretty significant unionisation movement happening in Europe.

You’re a fool if you think this isn’t necessary.

Know your rights
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's a laundry list of what management can't do that's illegal, including:
Fire you for forming a union
Retaliate against you
Cut your hours
Unfairly discipline you
Give you an excessive amount of work that you can't complete
Change your work duties or department in retaliation
Bribes that are promised for not supporting the union like bonuses, raises, promotions
Ask if you support forming a union
Ask if you're attending a union meeting
If company is monitoring, who really cares at this point? some I can understand with young kids but even then, life is worth more than being a caged animal most of your days
I genuinely love this idea and I'm in, but this would never work, people here on visa's are a huge roadblock and Frank would just replace us with cheaper offshore talent.
Yes if you aren't working at fiserv anymore, feel free to move on. However some of us want to make a change in the industry where MBA's decide to cut and cut to hit their targets and get fat bonuses for the short term gains while gutting the longterm outlook.
Also yes 3 months minimum severence we obviously wouldn't want to negotiate backwards for long term employees.
As for site safety I'd encourage everyone to keep their identity safe even on our site until we can vote to unionize at particular locations.
You’re all id--ts if you go to this site. It’s probably the company setting it up to monitor us. Use your heads. Find another job and move on.
Minimum 3 months severance. I would lose 3 months as I'm eligible for 6 months now.
