Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO 5 days 1/1/2025

I've heard from multiple people that we are going to be forced back to the office 5 days/week starting 1/1. My biggest question is: why? I haven't seen a single productivity metric from the C-Suite. I thought they'd already hit their goal of layoffs. Who will be left to even make this company function anymore?

The new comp plan for sellers is rolling out. Cutting salaries and putting extra into commissions.

We just got noticed the other day that it’s going to be 5days a week in the office starting January 6th. At every office location. Totally ridiculous, it’s 2024 not 1994. Putting more cars on the road, probably have to open more real estate locations or at least leasing more floors . And, they obviously don’t care about Employees . Seems like common sense to give your employees the benefit of a Hybrid schedule in this day and age.

I don't believe for one second the average hours worked by remote workers was 20 hours per week. I have seen the dedication of these workers. Going above and beyond, even after team members were surplussed. Working nights and weekends. Receiving recognition for going above and beyond.

This is flat out a surplus but done a sneaky way.

And for everyone claiming it's a business and they can do what they want...thanks captain obvious.

What's going to happen once all of the talent is gone?

More BS hoops to jump through. Oh we care about the environment blah blah blah. Well great work putting all these cars back on the road 3, now 5 days a week. I'd say you missed your metrics. Let's not forget your health matters. To att? Fuhq it does. Since 2014, twice a year Oh there's gonna be a surplus. Wondering is this gonna be the year. Don't forget what our leaders have to say. Who cares. The only real leader you had just left and you had this over the top paid CEO that created one of our biggest competitors and was a loser at every turn. TOP NOTCH I say. TOP NOTCH.

"You mean running a company? I think having supervisors is a standard cost of business."

You obviously have not been paying attention. The company has gone way beyond just having supervisors. They have implemented new software to track connected hours, hours connected in the office vs hours connected outside the office, etc. Those are not "standard cost of business". As a matter of fact, companies survived decades without those digital tracking services.
Sometimes playing stupid like you did makes you look stupid, which you are.

Trust me if L3 and L4 have to come to the office 5 days a week then they will definitely require their teams to do the same. What is it they say, misery loves company. We have not heard boo from our AVP or VP in months as they seem to be just as miserable and discontent with the goings on as everyone else is.

Yep, it’s true. I was covered today by my AVP… VPs must be in the office five days a week starting immediately, the rest of the organization starting January 1.

I wonder how much money AT&T is spending on real estate, and employee oversight and enforcement?

RE: Rough time for commercial real estate. Probably not finding any buyers. Important for large companies to normalize RTO to retain value in the comm real estate.

Oversight and enforcement: You mean running a company? I think having supervisors is a standard cost of business.

I heard the stink didn't like the percentage of people who weren't meeting the 3x a week so his pea brain thinks that upping it to 5x will make those who brought the average down to suddenly find a need they don't have to actually go in.

It's like punishing your good child for something the bad one did.

“Amazon and Tesla are doing the same.”

They also pay significantly more, have better benefits and facilities, and actually work on cool world changing technologies.

This place su-ks, pay is garbage, stock is pathetic, you don’t get RSU’s til L3, and you work on dinosaur tech.

Why even stay here at all?

Is it only NFTO people being told 5 days a week? Anyone who’s office indicator starts with an M being told 5 days, like MS?

Depends on your Organization. Townes for example is 5 days for NFTO, MFTO, MS etc.

I have never seen such company that truly hates their employee to oblivion, the fact that they could offer flexibility but chose not to, they did and had to take em away like a bully taking things away from the weaklings. Why couldn't we be a hybrid? I have never hated leaders more than I hated the BOOMER Stankey and his minions. The only BOOMER that needs to go is STANKEY. He is a S…ON OF a B<<

My director told me 5 days a week is only for people in Dallas and Atlanta where leadership is. Anyone in other hubs not colocated with leadership will fall back to 1 day a week in office and some will be switched to virtual and 1 day a month.

3 days not enforced outside Dallas.

Stop saying this, because it is enforced. You get a whiny manger complaining about their bonus if you don't go in 3 days a week.

If you REALIZED any benefits in being away from the office VS commuting into a office and sitting in a echo chamber while trying to be PRODUCTIVE and contributing to the GROWTH of a company that wants to shackle you to a desk, and yet, you just go along like a sheep to the sla-ghter...SAD.

Deep down inside--You KNOW that YOU are BETTER than that...just going along with the flow...We can ALL DO BETTER than THAT.

If T wants to full time RTO and go back to the 90’s, then provide the following:

Assigned desk space with locking cabinets.
Office supplies, notebooks, post-its, pens, pencils, whiteboards, markers that actually work, etc.
Garbage pickup.
Cubes with walls.
Phones/headsets.
Coffee/Snacks/Water
Quality monitor, mouse, keyboard and docking station
Anything else I’m missing?

A nice red stapler?

Show the courage of your convictions and leave tomorrow rather than talk cr-p about your employer.

Nah. I’m good. The term ‘employer’ means nothing here. Evil is a more accurate description. Pure evil. This is why there are so many posts against it.

“ the average being 20hrs per week”

https://www.inc.com/melanie-curtin/in-an-8-hour-day-the-average-worker-is-productive-for-this-many-hours.html

If this article (a little old) is at all accurate then 20 hours a week of focused work is about on target and maybe a little high. Of course the geniuses we work for have no clue how people actually function.

‘Nobody would throw this big of fit if they weren't seriously taking advantage of WFH.’

Of course we are taking advantage of WFH Einstein.
But… what is wrong with…
Mowing the lawn or taking a walk on your lunch break?
Greeting the kids when they get home from school.
Taking the chicken breasts out to thaw so you can cook them for dinner.
Running to a doctor’s appointment or picking up a prescription?
Or any combination of things that can be done because you are at HOME and in between meetings or finishing up a long stretch of work before starting up another task. The point is… WHO GIVES A CR-P??
You want me to sit in my chair and act like i’m a CYBORG? It’s bad enough people schedule 2-3 hour meetings.
We’re human beings dude.
If they want me to punch a time card then let’s get it on already.

"how many hours employees are actually working during the day and the numbers were staggeringly low with the average being 20hrs per week."

If 20 is the AVERAGE then what on earth are the managers of these people doing? Why aren't they doing their job and putting people on PIP's.

It's more likely, if that is true, their way of measuring "productivity" is hilariously bad and they have no idea wtf their employees actually do. That's why they think so little of us and want to get rid of 85k people in 3 years. What a disaster this place is.

My VP informed us today that we are back to 5 days per week 8hrs per day starting immediately. He shared insight into how leadership has been collecting massive amounts of data on how many hours employees are actually working during the day and the numbers were staggeringly low with the average being 20hrs per week. Some of the ways this is being determined is the amount of time employees PC's are connected to the corporate LAN, keystrokes & mouse clicks per hour on those PC's, time spent on MS teams meetings, etc. He did relate that there is going to be very little tolerance for low work hours based on the algorithms the company is using to determine work productivity, and people will be cut loose if low work hour trends and repetitive paterns are seen with those individuals. So just being on the corporate LAN will not qualify as being in the office and "working". Big Brother is watching and not in a good way. My VP also said the company has a 3-4 year plan to return to the Whiticare era of profitability with no debt and it's going to be painful, he stated " Winter is coming". We all know what that means.”

Complete and utter fabrication…

So what do keystrokes and the like have to do with results? We have goals every year. If you are meeting them then you’re meeting them, if not, you aren’t. These are Amazon warehouse productivity measures. And do they really think coming to an office two more days a week will change that?

The stupidity never ceases to amaze.

Why??? You draw a paycheck and your employer wants you in the office. Question though, did any of you tards refuse to come to the office during your interview? Yeah, I know half of you will now claim you were hired to work from home. Tough sh*t. The rules changed. Leave if you can't live with the new conditions. It's not a difficult problem. Show the courage of your convictions and leave tomorrow rather than talk cr-p about your employer.
