Why Has Boeing Delayed The 777X Once Again?

On October 11,
as the machinists’ strike has continued for now more than a month,
Boeing announced that the Boeing 777X would be delayed once again.

The aircraft type, which was scheduled to enter service in 2020,
should now begin commercial flights in 2026, starting with the 777-9.
Two years later, the 777-8F, a freighter based on the smaller 777-8,

In a publicly published message to employees, Kelly Ortberg,
the President and chief executive officer of Boeing.
Admitted that the company was in a difficult position financially.
As a result, even returning Boeing to glory will require tough decisions,
which will include structural changes and layoffs.

“returning Boeing to glory” You’re going to need a time machine Ortberg. 🤣

Ortberg cited challenges in the development of the aircraft (he means the cracks),
And the flight test pause caused by the cracks. It’s the cracks, Kelly. ---
Along with the ongoing work stoppage due to the strike,
by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM)
District Lodge 751 and District W24 as the reasons behind the delay.
He said, Scapegoating the union rather than acknowledging the engineering

I am wondering if any of the Boeing 'machinists' will be able to find work after being laid off. You know it is coming. Boeing may even offer a pension back (but reduce 401K to previous level). However, in the next several years Boeing will build another factory in South Carolina (the land is already acquired) and transfer a line or two of 737 there. I am wondering how IAM would be voting then? Do not bite the hand that feeds you. IAM may win now, but in 4 years IAM in Puget Sound will be reduced from 33,000 down to 10,000. It is coming, and everybody knows about it. By the way, pension is way worse option than 401K since it not adjusted for inflation. Think before you vote.

https://www.newsbytesapp.com/news/business/boeing-might-sell-off-some-of-its-assets/story

Boeing is reportedly mulling over selling off assets to strengthen
its shaky finances, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The strategy includes divesting from non-essential or underperforming divisions within the company.
Just last week, Boeing had finalized a deal to sell off a minor defense division that manufactures surveillance equipment for the US military.

In recent financial performance meetings,
Boeing's new CEO Kelly Ortberg has asked company unit heads
to assess their respective unit's value to the firm.
The move comes as part of a broader strategy to assess the financial health and performance of different divisions within the failing company.
The company's board has also been actively involved in this process, questioning division heads and reviewing reports on each unit's status.

The ongoing strike by machinists at Boeing has brought the production
of its top-selling 737 MAX, and its 767 and 777 wide-bodies to a standstill. This has further strained the company's already fragile finances.

Boeing stock in turbulence: Why its descent may be far from over.

Boeing is currently navigating one of the most challenging periods in its history,
with its stock down approximately 40% year-to-date, making it one of the worst performers on the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

the confluence of operational setbacks know as failures,
causing increased financial strain from the years of mismanagement,
along with regulatory scrutiny over the company’s products kіllіng people, and
labor disputes suggests that this downward trend may continue for some time.
Until the Chapter 11 filing, then the stock should stabilize.
