Woww what a crazy place to work
I’ve been with Cisco a very long time and I would love to focus on the work, enhancing skills, being part of a positive team that does great things.
I was at Cisco for weeks before I realized none of these things were possible with management giving me a new first priority to work on every 15 minutes.
...should I jump ship before I’m forced out?
You've already acknowledged you aren't focused on using and growing your skills which means you're falling behind. Even Fox News is reporting the economy is about to go in the cr-pper so you should be actively improving your skills and your professional network, and even in good times you should do the occasional interview as the career trajectory of those that make judicious job jumps are typically far better than those who get lost in one aging way of doing things at one company with one group of people. You don't have to jump now but you do need to put in the work to advance your career as part of proper risk management, be it continuing at Cisco or somewhere else.
I’ve been with Cisco a very long time and I would love to focus on the work, enhancing skills, being part of a positive team that does great things. I’d like to think some of that is accurate but the reality of Cisco is each day, every single day, my focus is on longevity; how long will I be here and should I jump ship before I’m forced out? I’m a good day it’s a mild distraction. On other days it preoccupies my thoughts and has me networking for other opportunities with other companies so I don’t get blindsided
February 2025 Layoff confirmed.
It is Splunk FY End
It is Cisco's mid FY.
Cisco is bleeding money from the LR debacle. the Splunk merger is not going well.
The Hypershield product is delayed. roadmap is Q4 CY 2025
They just suffered a massive data breach
employee morale is very low.
LR will be 15% with another 10% in August 2025
Rumors are LR in FEB 2025 as it’s Splunk end of fiscal year
I would not be surprised if you saw another LR, albeit smaller before the end of the year.
Based on past history, the feb 2024 mid year layoff was a first and possibly an unhappy and painful exception.
Right now, I would not expect a 2025 layoff.
If one were to occurs, then we have a trend. Only at that point would it be reasonable to assume two layoffs each year for Cisco.
What fxxk you are doing.
I asked my director of the possibility of a layoff in October and he replied "I'm not sure, I can't comment on that"
I asked my director of the possibility of a layoff in November and he replied "I'm not sure, I can't comment on that"
I asked my director of the possibility of a layoff in December and he replied "I'm not sure, I can't comment on that"
I asked my director of the possibility of a layoff in January and he replied "I'm not sure, I can't comment on that"
Woww what a crazy place to work, there will be layoffs from Sep to Feb.
Is Lawrenville afftected?
First, welcome to your first day at Cisco having learned nothing about the company before joining!
They've had frequent layoffs, sometimes quarterly, for the past 23 years. Unless you can demonstrate some massive fundamental change in the way Cisco is run you should expect this to be the case for as long as Cisco exists.
Yes
This company has worked this way forever. In good economy, they hire like nuts. Half of the people are chillin. Then in tougher economy or when revenue falls, they do 2 things - buy companies to buy growth (and mostly sc--w up the acquired company) and layoff people to reduce cost. Every time you hear that budget is cut and contractors have been let go, layoff is next. This is the Cisco way.
Maybe if everyone stops spending time in blind, layoff.com and Glassdoor and instead focuses on work and delivering features, we can avoid the round in Feb. if course the amazing s1 asic might still pull the rug out from under us, but we can do what we can.
No young talents will ever want to join Cisco
Did you really have to ask that ? Cisco layoffs are clockwork
LR after 3 months with major ones happening in Aug/Sept and Feb/March. So we are good for 6 months but a small chop will occur in Dec.
why do you think sales got 6 month goal sheets again? makes it easier to plan for cutting more heads in Feb.
There will be. Equation has been determined.
Employees impacted (%) = {55 - Stock Price}
Everyone is laying off from now until well into 2025 because of stagflation, it’s not just Cisco
This is Cisco. Of course there will be more layoffs in 2025.
"Time to cull the now most expensive cohort to replace with cheaper labor"
This makes no sense, there were tons of people in India that were laid off in this LR.
I would say the director responded correctly. I don't think the directors at Cisco have any significant say so in running the company - just some glorified first line managers.
Yes more LRs and CR will make another 30 plus mil for by EOY 2025.
Of course there will be.
Time to cull the now most expensive cohort to replace with cheaper labor. When they cull, they throw in enough young fodder to avoid discrimination lawsuits. Do this every quarter, with major cuts every 6 months. Rinse and repeat.
This is the same story that has been playing out for over a decade, when Charlie Giancarlo pointed out Cisco's aging workforce demographics to Chambers.
absolutely no, the earlist will be 2 years later
You can take it to the bank that there will be a layoff in mid Feb
of course there will be, when hasn't there been another one?
What are you expecting them to say? It’s not their decision
