Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

JDI Day?

Is JDI day not happening this year? Feels like we should have heard something by now.

Eliminating it is an obvious way to cut costs and last year was a big step down from years prior. But, it’s a sign of the times if we don’t even have the Nike morale boosting/kool-aid drinking events that we used to.

I'm ok with this decision, especially after so many in the GPS team were laid off and the rest shipped to Paris to oversee events and logistics... you kinda need those folks to organize it.

This was the right call considering the context, we didn't even get a decent PSP paycheck FFS. I bet people would be filling this feed with angry posts if JDI was still going ahead as if nothing happened. Plenty of other Kool Aid events at WHQ at any given moment, it's not the end of the world.

I left Nike (mercifully) a decade ago. The ONLY thing my daughter misses about that Kool-Aid fueled life in the berm bubble… is JDI Day. Jumpy castles on the Ronaldo field, BBQs on the TWC patio, triathlons for teens… sad to see this one proud company taken down by an impostor.

Idk - every year we kept trying to larger and larger event. Last year was more of let down, more celebrity watching than doing something.

Prefer just to save the company from spending a million or so doing stuff like that, plus all the random parties that need to be involved… not really worth it

EMEA got the news from the GM weeks ago, which was very much appreciated. We just lost so many teammates, it's ok to skip a year. It'll come back at some point, I'm sure.

I always thought JDI day was a huge waste of money, but they could have cut the marketing pizazz and kept the employee pizzas. Removing it entirely is too big a reminder that we seemingly hold no human value nowadays

JDI day is replaced with FireJD day. That’ll be real celebration

I started with Nike during the 50th anniversary JDI celebration. I thought every year would have rappers or a concert. Guess I got bamboozled.

it was announced a couple weeks ago (on WorkVivo I believe) that there would be no JDI Day this year

The one last year was so lame anyway. A bunch of bored adults roasting in tents while the occasional "celebrity" walked by.
