L3 Directors and above just collect presentations from L2. It’s the L2/L1 that do all the work but reap none of the financial benefits. Been with the company 25 years and have seen only one in five Directors actually do their own presentation. It’s a joke just talking and criticizing.
Those over paid gatekeepers are as worthless at t1ts on a boar! Send them packing…with NO “golden parachute”!
Tregas org could use some slimming down of L3 and L4 - I would name several but this post would get deleted by the admin lol. SO I'll just mention last names....Snyder, Baniatis, Malone to name a couple.

Couple of things here... (and I don't hold any grudges against L3's, mine is actually pretty solid. Looks out for our team and helps with escalations when necessary).
- They may speak to PowerPoint(s) but it's their team that has to create those presentations.
- The project team does the project work, and gets the critical projects delivered for the organization. Not the L3's/ L4's. They may be cracking the whip or again, helping with escalations... but that's about it.

My L3 does help get some projects to the finish but they also spend a LOT of time scrambling to put together some slide for some VP to present to some other VP.
If we axed PowerPoint, which I believe Amazon does at least to a point, we could get rid of a lot of people and save ungodly amounts of time. Honestly my directors job isn’t worth whatever pay bump they get. It’s basically scrambling on top of nonstop meetings on top of more scrambling.

Been here a long time. Pretty rare that you ever see a L3 contracted back. Very common to see an L2 contracted back. When the L3 leaves, there is usually no essential job function that goes with them.
Often when an L2 leaves, they are the folks that have been directly working on projects with limited resources already. Often, they are among the last folks with specific technical knowledge in a given area; particularly in older "legacy" systems that still need to be supported, even if they are actively being sunsetted. So these folks are still "in demand" and are often contracted back.
Let's face it, most of what the L3 does is simply interact and report to the L4. That's about it.
I have seen some orgs at SVP level have up to 50% reduction of L3. About half of them take downgrades to L2 to get those last years needed for MR75 eligibility. Other half are retirement eligible, take severance & pension and smile on the way out. Likely contract back in 6 months.
While there are a number of empty L3 that shouldn’t have been promoted to begin with, this is less about performance and more about span of control. Any L3 w/o 8+ employee (not contractor) direct reporters should have their resume updated, regardless of already being in Dallas or their “strategic” and “high potential” value, which includes their DEI status.
