Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What Union does Comcast and Charter have??

The answer is none. Why? Because the work they do is easy to contract. The reality is now with Fiber, it’s easy to contract the fiber work that we do. If you think union jobs can’t be replaced, look at Comcast and Charter and ask yourself why don’t they have a union? The reasons is their work is easy to contract out. We are a different company now that fiber is the main work we do now. If you think you can’t be replaced, you’re wrong. Hopefully you will be smart and not be one of the folks that eventually get locked out.

People do realize that Gigapower operates with all contractors, even for installation? You do understand that they already have a model that doesn’t require any union workers? You think that was done by accident?

The company won't mind paying $360 a week for 26 weeks for unemployment verse paying 88 weeks of full pay to lay someone off... Seems like a bad argument for not getting locked out on a ULP when you look at the math... Just saying...

"Comcast employees fill in at AT&T when storms strike. The lines get repaired, but fail soon after. AT&T first class installer and maintenance repair hundreds of thousands of miles of fiber every year" THIS COMMENT IS A LOAD OF STEAMING CR-P!!! TFS, REPAIR OR WHATEVER THEY ARE CALLED NOW DOESN'T FIX SH-T! ITS CONSTRUCTION THAT ACTUALLY FIXES FIBER. REPAIR JUST THROWS THE "GRENADE" OVER THE OUTAGE WALL! LAUGHABLE THAT SOMEONE EVEN COMMENTED ON THIS. MUST HAVE BEEN A WIRE TECH! LOLOLLLLL

You are a fool. I hope they lock us out. There's a reason the company has never locked us out: They'd have to pay unemployment.

"Due to the fact that it’s an Unfair Labor Practice strike, a lockout isn’t an option."

The union filed a complaint against the company. That's step one.

Has the NRLB ruled on the validity of the complaint yet? What if they don't agree with the CWA complaint?

“AT&T need CWAs to do the real work. Go play with your scrum team…”

You are an infinitely replaceable widget. You work in a relative low-skill job, as evidenced by contractors who can easily fill your role. There is nothing more “real” about the work that you do than people who have to think for a living. Go back to picking your nose or your butt.

Re: “Were it not for the management personnel who design the network, program it, operate it, market it, bill customers for it, secure it, etc., there wouldn’t be anything for the CWA folks to do other than clog toilets.”

^ Can be done better in India by Indians. Or by AI. Or by OEM vendor. AT&T need CWAs to do the real work. Go play with your scrum team…

Due to the fact that it’s an Unfair Labor Practice strike, a lockout isn’t an option.

https://www.nlrb.gov/strikes

“Unfair labor practice strikers defined.Employees who strike to protest an unfair labor practice committed by their employer are called unfair labor practice strikers. Such strikers can be neither discharged nor permanently replaced. When the strike ends, unfair labor practice strikers, absent serious misconduct on their part, are entitled to have their jobs back even if employees hired to do their work have to be discharged. “
